I'm a business owner myself. Small, bootstrapping, (but growing to scale) and though not really a "tech" startup per se, it hinges on (and will hopefully settle into a symbiotic relationship with) the tech world. I'm always on the search for mentors that have their head on straight, to keep me in place when my idealism takes over and my feet leave the ground. After reading this blog, you're officially one of those people. I've been a Broodwar fan forever, and I believe Starcraft 2 is the engine we've been waiting for, for eSports to transcend. When the time is right and my business is ready to, as you so eloquently put it, 'pour drinking money' into a team, I'd like to start one. As an observant consumer, I'm completely fascinated by the organism that eSports has become over the last two years. I think more people need to realize that these periods of stagnation and drought are necessary for growth. We need to not let our idealism get the best of us, (which becomes increasingly difficult to do, when you're playing with something so close to the heart) and try to see things through a lens of objectivity. We need those at the helm to be willing to teach those that could be at the helm, the tricks of the trade. Successful entrepreneurs (team founders, content producers, etc) need to WELCOME competition instead of isolating themselves from it with their current audience. We need to stick together, help each other through the drought, but most importantly, be proud of what we've built, because it is really fucking cool, and we all really, really love it. Thanks for forging the path. It's awesome, in every sense of the word, to watch. | ||
