Knowing full well that HOTS is at the center of attention we created a large section of our trifold solely for HOTS content. The outer segments were attributed to our CSL team and major club events. The final touch to the trifold included the addition of five high quality creep tumors spread across the zerg biased poster. (Oddly, none of the 8-10 execs in our club actually play zerg). Unfortunately due to a lack of time, I was unable to put a large red X through the warhound and replace him with a carrier!
The overall event schedule has not changed drastically from the previous year aside from the addition of more weekly and biweekly meeups for members. The plan is to use these as a chance to play 1v1, FFA, watch some GSL or dwell on the lack of a high quality helmsdeep custom map in sc2.
Last season ended up going amazingly well with Mkengyn finally becoming a student at UofC. This gave our team a strong 1-2 punch that allowed us to dominate schools quickly or at the very least force an ace match. Sadly, our team eventually succumbed to UCSD in the ro32. The ace match was a ZvZ rematch with iStop taking a decisive lead early and never letting go even as Mkengyn did everything he could to regain control of the game.
WCS qualification for myself and Mkengyn was just icing on the cake as it gave me the opportunity to meet many of the players I kept track of online whether it was LgnKane (my personal upset pick to win WCS initially), my teammate iSKoma, RootTT1, or the ultra chill Jakebake.
Sadly, all of the enthusiasm I have had for CSL and lans in the previous year, I cannot seem to translate this to my online ladder practice. Losses tend to end up with me not GGing, going on massive losing streaks or bming my zerg opponent knowing full well it was my own mistakes costing me the game. My excuses have ranged from being unable to sleep properly, not having air conditioning in the house, cold hands, boring Protoss matchups, not stretching before I play, koreans being genetically superior at SC2 and of course zerg being OP.
Hopefully I can stomp out my bad habits/excuses and finally break out of top masters back into GM. Before this has any chance of happening, I must change my attitude but am unsure how to proceed. My attitude has held me back from proper practice for ages and I have never been able to climb this hurdle since starting sc2 from release.
Here's to another amazing CSL season and maybe a better attitude towards practice this year.
