Hi, this is a quick little V-log about the similarities of skills used in both Starcraft and Poker, I talk about my thoughts on which is harder, why online poker is pretty much just pro-gaming and why you should get into poker if you are a good at gaming.

Many, many Starcraft players that have had reasonable success will also be interested in SC2 due to it's strong similarities. Such as Elky, Benny Spindler, Athene and many more high stakes players online or live players. I will follow in suit hopefully and have had good success for the limited amount of time playing.

I think there's a reason why only 1% become pros. Can you post your quarterly earnings? I know most people give up on trading after 6 months, because they can't go positive. A lot of people go positive for 1 game/week/month, but then lose it all the next month.

-indifference to bad results so as not taint decision making with emotions,
-using small bits of info to eliminate potential positions of an opponent, like no gas means no gas units, comparable to some hands being available based on the5 cards that the players share in texas holdem
-resource management comparable to chip (money) collection
- small mathematical calcultions like how many barracks to use to efficiently use your current economy similar to some of the card counting and probability calculations?
thats all i could really learn and think of on my own. i am really curious how geometry is part of starcraft. guess i need to watch the berkely sc class videos? anyone know?
anyways, i really like the idea of comparing transferable skills so i can make the most of my learning in everything i do.
also theres some nice videos on your youtube channel.

I would say that you can see circles and triangle patterns in broodwar/sc2. If you think of cycling units as a circle. It's prob not close to a perfect circle really, but an ellipse.
Equation of a circle x^2+y^2=z^2.

Chinese triangle
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=65335

You can even do volumes of units over a certain area, to find minimal amounts of units to break them.

Even though you calculated it with the min, it doesn't mean you will have the advantage always. There's always the flaw of micro, so you have to rely on your micro skills to do this. (2 baneling won't always kill 5 marines)

I used to do this to help me come up with better builds to beat "flavor of the week/month" builds.

Sorry but this sounds for me like someone who went from amateaur sc2 player to amateaur poker player.
You are right about the tilting thing, but apm in sc2 is something totally different than apm at poker, when u play it multiple tables.

From the past 6 months I calculated on PartyPoker:

24 Tabling 2NL: $16.22/h
20 Tabling 10NL: $26.7/h
16 Tabling 25NL: $20.64/h

I am currently finding much more success in tourneys as opposed to cash games. All though I am making my transition into a live player since the competition is much, much weaker than online and I can handle myself well while playing. I am also learning more about tourneys/SnG's. My friend who multi-tabled small stakes sit and go's introduced me to it, and I have wanted to become profitable at tourney poker, I find it much easier to learn than cash games.

Geometry is a huge part of starcraft, it's the nature of microing units, you need to make geometric decisions on where your units should move to, the radius of the unit's attack in relation to the other units, unit pathing, etc, it's a whole thing.

Btw, You forgot a much more simple example of how the two games are similar. If you are playing GSL Season 2 and play against MarineKing you are well aware of his aggression history, and can play accordingly to beat it (defensive passive). The knowledge you get a table is similiar to the knowledge you get from playing someone in a BoX.

Can we get screen shots of your earnings.

Something didn't sound right when you say that you're a pro sc2 player. When you look at the pros from BW, the game required a lot more APM, and ELKY had a far higher learning curve than some one like you. Rekrul was taught by Elky, because Rekrul wasn't very successful at first, and ended up dropping out of school to go play in Korea. The story is very interesting.

There are other top level BW players who went pro in poker, but again, I think it's the drive and the learning curve.

So, can we get screenshots of your earnings?
