Sup TL, more of a "Letting off steam" rant than telling a story.
So I've been trying to get to diamond this season as random (on NA), and things are all going pretty well. my match history this week is 14-4, with a win streak of 8 in a row vs top plats / diamonds. pretty good right? no. it's not.
4/4 losses I've been Terran (my favorite race to play) and 3 of those were TvT.
I lost to some ling/bling all in from a zerg that's fine, I didn't scout it properly so it destroyed me, my fault.
the TvTs are what annoys me. I simply cannot wrap my head around this matchup, after watching the replays, every game I had more workers, higher army supply when they attacked, and i lose due to bad positioning.
I see he's going marine tank, so i put my army on the watchtower with siege tanks, and some turrets in my base. he finds a gap, and doom drops me.
I try to do a 1-base, hit at the exact time the BO says it will be most powerful, and get destroyed by siege tanks. what the fuuuuuck.
TvT is godawful (for me) to play.
I'm so close to just doing proxy rax every TvT I get, even though I'm strongest in long macro games
Also fuck you, promote me already, every other game against these diamonds isn't even sodding close.

Turrets around map can help prevent doom drops. Take an example from BroodWar where terran had a surplus of minerals to spend on turret walls in key locations for drops. Maybe you spread yourself out too thin? It doesn't hurt to leave a few marines or a tank to defend from drops, either. Turret placement is key as well.. you wanna put them in places where they will be most likely to drop from.
Army positioning is really big.. like you said. So work on that! The best advice i can give to you about TvT is to try to predict what is going to happen before it happens 
Of course, there are no replays to anaylze but maybe you aren't as far ahead as you thought you were in those games? Or maybe you failed to hold a lead when you had it, being too aggressive, etc.

Use scans super liberally.
Knowing where the MAIN army of the Terran is huge, when you scan and find the main army , if the siege tanks arent in position, you can position yourself in a favourable position. If they're already sieged up, just waaalk around it.
Picking off the small groups of units they try to defend extra bases with will get picked off super easily and force the main army of the Terran to reposition in an unfavourable or awkward position.
Remember that it doesn't matter if your ahead, tanks can change the game in either favour in an instant.

tvt i find can be interesting to watch but boring to play. however worst mirror matchup by far is zvz imo
