Four People Who Suck at Posting
In this list I’ll leave people unnamed and restrict it to people who are reasonably well known since there are, of course, countless sub-100 post count baddies who just haven’t been noticed yet. Like the second list that will follow, they are presented in no particular order.
Edit: Something magical happened that I was too dumb to see coming: Everybody thinks I hate them because of the super vague descriptions and the lack of confirmation. Since I'd much rather have 4 people hate me than 827346 people think I hate them (I actually don't mind most of these people, just some qualities that rub me the wrong way), I'll reveal the names. Again, there are probably dozens of people who can fit in each one, but these are the people I had in mind.
#1. Seeker. Nobody hit this in the thread I think but a few people PM'd me with it.
#2. Myself. This was the special twist ending directed by M. Night Shyamalan. I guess in a sense, HawaiianPig got this one.
#3. DjWilma. No explanation needed I think, people got this one pretty quick.
#4. 3ffa. Somebody got it in PMs with some hints but I dont think I seen it in here.
Person #1: This is the only one I actually feel bad about writing this for, hence me getting it out of the way quickly. He’s really not bad for the most part and contributes a ton to the site in various ways. In fact, unlike the other people on this list, I think Teamliquid as a community would be noticeably worse off without him. The only problem I have is that he would absolutely, 100% agree with me. Almost every post he makes gives off an air of cockiness and self-importance. If I didn’t know better, I’d read some of his posts and expect them to be from the Pope. Also unlike other people in this list, even I believe that I’m probably the one in the wrong here. Realistically he seems fine and I think I’m probably the one overreacting and getting excessively sensitive. I guess it just rubs me the wrong way.
Also this should probably be the easiest one to figure out. I’ll never confirm or deny nothing but, yeah, sorry guy #1. I actually do feel bad about this one.
Person #2: I’m pretty sure this guy has spent his entire career as a poster on Teamliquid trying to trick people into thinking he’s actually decent. He apparently figures if he puts a lot of time into something and peppers it with stupid jokes that can be used for a cheap chuckle, people will look past how poorly his work is actually written. For the most part he’s been rather successful. In close to three years, he’s racked up thousands of posts and no bans. Rather, he just stays hidden - always watching, always mediocre (at best). But not hidden well enough, apparently. I’ve seen you, and you suck.
Person #3: I would have my doubts that this guy even played or followed Sc2 or BW at all if he hadn’t BM’d the shit out of me on the ladder once (petty personal grudges ftw!). His posts almost exclusively contain an advertisement/plug of varying directness to something he did as part of another hobby. Now, hobbies are great and wanting to show what you’ve done to a group of fellow gamers seems like a reasonable thing to do. But there’s a line you hit eventually where you have to start to wonder “Am I actually on the right forum for this? Maybe I should find somewhere else more dedicated to my hobby.” Guy #3 has been doing the Hokey Pokey dance over this line for well over a year now. Occasionally he would go for a mad dash across this line but find himself hit with a mysterious red hammer from way atop a nearby watchtower. Really I think he’s actually pretty decent at what he does, but I certainly wouldn’t cry if he packed up and moved somewhere more appropriate.
Person #4: This guy is a ton better than he used to be just a year or two ago so forgive this paragraph as it is “Brought to You in Part By - Leftover Bitterness!” (read in Price is Right guy’s voice please). First off, he’s a Brood War guy. No, that’s not my problem with him, though it does actually play a part. The problem is not that he’s a Brood War guy but rather how desperately he wants you to know that he is. He seems to embody all the negative aspects of a modern Brood War fanatic with none of the positives, all while being a mediocre player, having no knowledge of the game, and having no knowledge of the pro-scene around it. This is all rounded off by an ever-present smugness. I can’t quite understand how you can be so proud of your BW heritage without actually having any BW heritage, but apparently I’m missing something important.
And that’s it for the negative list. You can try to guess identities if you’d like, but I won’t confirm or deny nothing. Some are more difficult than others I think.
Four People Who Rock at Posting
Wow that was a lot of negativity just now. Apparently I’m quite a dbag and will surely be appearing on crappy poster lists for years to come. But to be more positive, here’s a list of four very underappreciated posters who are much less crappy! I tried not to include moderators and such since they’re pretty good on the whole, hence becoming moderators.
Mobius_1: In short, kid’s funny. Pretty much every post I notice of his gets a giggle out of me and, similarly, oftentimes posts that make me giggle turn out to be from Mobius_1. But for some reason or another, people don’t quite seem to notice. I think they just laugh quietly to themselves and carry on with their lives. If somebody like Idra or even just a prolific TL poster like blind_rawr posted most of the things Mobius_1 says, they’d be much more noticed. Notice him!
Juicyjames: This one’s a bit weird for me. There’s a pretty good chance you vaguely recognize the name but aren’t quite sure from where. Hell, many of this guy’s posts actually get featured on the front page of TL and on the sidebar. Despite that, he still goes largely unseen. If you haven’t figured it out yet, he’s the guy responsible for the “This Week in Starcraft 2” that you see, well, every week. In other words, he’s the guy responsible for documenting and neatly organizing damn near everything of note that happens in the Sc2 scene ever. He’s really one of the biggest contributors on the entire site and he totally needs to be better recognized for it.
Fionn: It’s really hard to be unseen on the TL forums when you’re rocking a giant pen icon but damned if Fionn isn’t going to try. Yes, you’re probably familiar with him even if for nothing else than the Fionn Curse. Still, considering the regularity with which he makes insightful posts, even disregarding his work as an official TL writer, he seems to have his posts drowned out pretty often. If you see something of his in an LR thread or other Sc2 discussion, just take the time to read it - it’s almost always interesting.
Ryo: In my opinion, absolutely the number one person deserving of a Forum Star. Since joining the site, he’s been a source of constant news and what seems to be insider information from the Korean Brood War scene. I don’t know exactly who he is but he seems to know everything you need to know and relays that information to us on a constant basis. In fact, if you open the BW General forum and look down the list of topic starters, you’ll almost always find at least two threads created by Ryo, usually the interesting ones.
There are several billion other great posters on Teamliquid and only a handful of bad ones, which I think speaks wonders about our community. In all I think this was a pretty poor use of an hour but at least I got some stuff off my chest in the first part and hopefully made 4 people smile in the second part. Could have been worse. :D
Bye !
