It almost pains me to say it, but League is just way more fun than SC2. I can just hop on League and have a fun match no matter what. I used to hate LoL, I called it a casual game for kids and people that weren't good at harder games. I played the trial about a year ago, and it just didn't appeal to me. But about 2 weeks ago my best friend started playing it, and wanted me to try it. Reluctantly, I downloaded the game and started it up. The first few games were just me dying over and over since I had almost no idea what to do, but once a few friends showed me what build to do I started doing better and I had more fun. Now, we have a group of about 10+ people (all real life friends too) that play together and I'm having such a good time. I haven't had this much fun since the ol' CoD WaW/MW2 days where we had a bunch of friends playing that too. I don't see myself playing SC2 very much anymore, especially with the current terran situation (but that's for another thread, lol :D). I hated logging on to SC2 and it felt like a ghost town, where you would just grind out 1v1's against faceless opponents. But no more!

TL;DR: Don't be like me, don't be biased against a game you haven't played yet, you could be really missing out!

I also hate to say it but I have to agree with you(kind of). I used to play SC2 pretty heavily about a year ago but then my friend and I decided to try LoL. We loved the shit out of it and it was pretty fun. After a while I got a little sick of LoL though, mostly because I got sick of the stale games(farm in lane for 30mins then teamfight over baron/dragon). Then I got a dota2 key from a kind soul here on TL and I have to say that I am having more fun in dota2 then I ever had in LoL or SC2. If you have the chance I recommend trying out dota2. It is much more challenging and harder to learn than LoL, but it's much more rewarding and the games are more fun and interesting imo.

Hm I tried it and hated it, but always good to see you can enjoy other games. I have never been a fan of hero type games so I wasn't surprised I found myself hating it

I had same problem with LoL, it was fun at first but I got tired of the repetetive games and farming for 30 min. In Starcraft 2 it feels like action starts very quickly after you join a game.

I thought I wasn't a fan of them either lol, but when I started playing it just sucked me in. I'm kinda sad because I wanted to eventually become high masters/gm on SC2, but I'd much more rather spend my time having fun with friends than churning out game after game trying to get better. Maybe I'll come back for HotS or something, but atm it's all LoL.

LoL is an extremely fun game, no doubt about it. And this is coming from someone who has 1000 hours of dota2 played already. LoL is awesome, especially when queuing with friends. it's a great experience, that mostly doesnt bother itself with nerve-wracking competition like sc 1v1 does. What turned me away, however, was the pay-to-win aspect, and the constant balance patches that change the meta game much too drastically. aaaand i'm a grognard and prefer dota

but to each his own. glad you're having fun. And be sure to try out dota once it is released!

I do think SC2 is the better game overall, the skill ceiling in it is just insane. It's really cool to watch pros play SC2 because you can see their insane mechanics and realize that you'll most likely never be as good as them. But for just raw fun, LoL wins out.

Yep. Unfortunately starcraft and battle.net 2.0 don't have a real social aspect to them in most cases. Only a very, very small minority of people even know people at their own skill level to practice with so they have to go to the ladder which, as you said, feels very anonymous. LoL, on the other hand, can be played with friends even if everyone isn't exactly on the same level and therefore provides fun more easily. That being said... on a different note... I hate the way LoL looks... DotA 2 and HoN are more my style. too bad no one I know plays those either.

I have the same relationship with LoL as I have with team games in SC2.

I get pissed when I go on a losing streak in SC2, but I don't ever rage quite like I did when I played LoL. One idiotic teammate and it's pretty much game over. It only compounds on itself when that idiot is yelling at you in a language you don't speak.

There is no pay to win in LoL. That's the entire premise of a competitive F2P game's success (read Riot Gaming). You buy cosmetics or conveniences only.

And yes, I agree LoL is a lot of fun. I too was initially turned off by the game until a couple friends insisted I play more than a paltry amount of games.

Yeah, I can't comment about Dota or HoN because none of my friends play those. It's a shame SC2 is the way it is. On one hand it's fun to get better and stuff, but then on the other it's super vacant feeling and it's also stressful. Team games aren't very fun because either you play with randoms and get pissed off because they're idiots, or you play with your friends and still get cheesed every game.

Rune pages.

I love League and I like playing it more than SC2, but a large part of that is because I already burned out on playing Brood War and I'm older and slower. RTS is a young man's game.

Hm, I heard that LoL had a terrible community but honestly I get much more bm in SC2 ladder games than I do in LoL.

For me, the appeal of LoL is that it's something simple and mindless that I can play even if I'm exhausted from work, whereas I might not always have the concentration needed to play SC2 properly. That said, I disagree about the playing with friends aspect: either game can be fun playing on a team with friends even if you are at different levels. And of course, the random SC2 players you run into tend to be a bit less obnoxious than LoL players overall.

I had the same experience. Got tired with SC2 started LoL with my roommate, played ALOT for about 2 months. Got bored, got back to SC2 playing/watching it since then. I don't know it just feels better. But I'm glad you are enjoying yourself

Also there is one thing that is completely horrible about LoL/DotA type games, which is teammates. My god, the teammates. I kind of burned out on LoL 6 months ago, and every time I think of playing it again, all those games ruined by leavers/feeders/ragers come back to haunt me.

lol, you ain't seen nothing yet. Trust me, I've played both for hundreds of hours, and LoL/DotA games are 10000x worse than SC2 BM.

Yeah, I haven't done many solo queues. I'm almost always playing with at least 1 friend, so it's not as bad.

What about rune pages is pay to win? Runes can only be unlocked through playing and while you can get more rune pages for money or through playing, only one is active at a time. It's pay-to-advance-faster but not pay-to-win.

On topic:
From my own experience, League of Legends is usually more fun because it's more casual, which means even your non-hardcore gamer friends or colleagues play it... and the more friends you have that play a game, the more fun the game becomes for you because you can talk to others about the games, talk about tournaments, complain about OP champions, talk strategy and stuff...

On the other hand, while SC2 is not exclusively for hardcore gamers it's still a game where it's less likely that your friends pick it up, so except for online forums you can't really talk with anyone about it. This is why barcrafts and such are so extremely important and i wish there was one in a 200km radius :-/
