The long version: The main reasons I want to upgrade are for Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. In general I’d like to be able to run either of those games whilst able to quickly alt tab between a media player and an internet browser without particularly suffering for doing so. I also would like to really get in to using the SC2 map editor which currently just annihilates my pc, as well as video editing from time to time. What is your upgrade cycle? Last time I upgraded was around 2003 with 2nd hand parts, so really just when it gets to the point like now where I’m hitting a wall with software requirements. I guess I’d be looking for 5+ years before upgrading again, with the exception of possibly adding more RAM in a few months time. When do you plan on building it? I'm planning on setting up the basic motherboard, CPU and some RAM as soon as possible. I'll then be adding a seperate graphics card and further RAM in the new year. Do you plan on overclocking? Whilst I understand what overclocking is I don’t know how to safely do it without damaging my system and thus have no intention of doing so. If it would be deemed important though to make a system work out in budget I’d be happy to put more time in to learning how to do so. Do you need an Operating System? No, I’m getting a copy of Windows 7 separate to this build. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No, I don’t plan to do so. Where are you buying your parts from? I live in Europe (England) and so far Ebuyer.com has proven to be the cheapest option on most parts I’ve looked up so I will likely end up using them. (That's it for relevant info) I also wanted to show my current specs, just because having looked up the minimum specs I’m amazed it can run Sc2 and I thought I'd share just how low you can go and still play. Managed to get through single player on normal and 1/3 of the way through brutal before I gave up and decided I need a new system!
Yeah sometimes I have to press escape to close video clips on single player because the fading out takes forever, yes everything is on low and every time I click a new unit or a new one hatches or I build a new building or more than 40 units are on the screen, or I’m looking blankly in to a fog of war area in frustration, or trying to load a game or a new sound file begins playing - it lags, but….yeah ok I need a new pc. Worthy of scrutiny, not really. There are ways you can prevent being perceived in such a fashion if the issue is really so important to you. Also, about the damage he has done to your potential professional career by calling you out as a stream sniper or cheater.. No offense, but nobody was going to remember you for a one-off incident on iNcontroL's stream, I promise you. That kind of recognition came with a 15 page thread about stream cheating subtleties. If you had been matched against him 6 times in a row and were clearly demonstrating knowledge of the stream.. you are going to come off with a bad image, which is not only your fault, but also a big thing you need to consider when you're trying to go pro. Besides, professionals aren't made through stream sniping, they are made through results at tournaments, which you have already stated you lack the time or means to participate in. I'm sure everybody understands the difference between stream sniping and stream cheating. It seems to me though that most of the community has a clear grasp on the kind of people known to participate in those sorts of activities, and it is unfortunate that through your demeanor you appeared to be one of them. Stream sniping can be fine to find good competition, but if you overdo it you're going to make a bad name for yourself. Like I said, this doesn't only mean repetitive targeting of the same streamer, but also calling attention to yourself and trying to piggyback on his fame. It isn't necessarily wrong, but it is annoying, and you can expect aggravated remarks if that's how you act. | ||
