The match played out rather simply, I mis-read a 4 gate by going 2 gate - robo - gate and then saw he wasn't attacking, so I expanded. Then midway through the fight my observer saw his army coming towards me, so I cancelled the expansion and bunkered down, he had far more units than I, despite my better tech and I eventually succumbed to his aggression.
That match aside, today was also the day of Dreamhack so despite not expecting much of a viewer turnout I cast, because that's what I do. Max was about 13 viewers at one point, while there were a few fun matches with BabyKnight and ClouD the tournament eventually was turned over to the Korean players Hyun and Hyeon they mopped the Euro players out 2-0 and 3-0 with Hyun advancing to take victory.
Partway through the cast I was joined by Artanis whom I enjoy very much as a person and would probably get along well with him IRL should we ever get the chance to meet.
However I'm beginning to realize that my skills as a caster are severly limited to some personality problems I have:
I don't like sharing my sandbox.
I have a much bigger ego than I realize.
I don't play enough to justify myself as an able commentator.
All casting teams or professionals hired for events are done so in pairs... I either need to learn how to play nice or convince them I can be a one man show. I label myself as more of a enthusiastic caster trying to emulate the Korean casters in their enthusiasm for the game and bringing it to my viewers. For whatever reason when I have a co-caster I just get disillusioned and lazy and uninterested in the game. I've also spread myself thin and find myself playing a little bit of everything, Dota, SC2, Diablo3, Wii games, Civ 5, WoW. I'm cutting that back and focusing more on what I have decided I want.
I want to be a caster, a great caster, I want to be good enough to cast to 6500 viewers again.
Next Steps:
Find myself a camera-man: I don't believe a partner would be best, but someone who could be the Teller to my Penn.
Get a GomTV pass to study korean casting. As much as the highly professional and analytical style that seems to be becoming the norm at major events is the current flavor. I want to learn the style from the SC2 heartland.
