You let your iPhone just sit out in a public place... and then going to get the iPhone you left your bags sit there.. You're lucky that you got to track it down. No one intentionally "stole" your iPhone, you just put it down in a public place out of your sight. If someone had intentionally stole this, I don't think you would have had any chance of finding it. There is a small chance they would be dumb enough to leave it turned on and plugged in to be tracked, atleast for a few days until they feel it's safe. It sounds like the guy who took it just seized the opportunity of an old lady handing it to him, which is semi dishonest, but it all stems back to how you left it sit out in open sight in a public place. I might sound a little harsh, but having expensive belongings like that carries risk. No one's ever stolen any of my iPods or cell phones yet, so maybe I am just having a hard time seeing your point of view completely. I understand and agree partially with your view but taking someone else's property isn't "semi dishonest". It's basically stealing. Just because someone messed up doesn't make it right to take their stuff. Sure, he didn't take it by force or anything but still kind of a douche move to accept the phone.

And that guy did intentionally steal his iPhone. Stealing doesn't have to be premeditated. Sure he has a certain responsibility to keep his own stuff safe, that doesn't make it right in the other direction. If you leave the door to your house unlocked it means you are stupid but it still doesn't mean people can freely ravage it and not call it illegal.

Must admit I'm feeling pretty smug knowing I've never paid money for a phone :D, hand-me-downs and free phones on contracts ftw!
