Two days ago, I finally convinced myself to play StarCraft 2. After all, BroodWar is pretty much dead, all my friends no longer play it, and StarCraft 2 seems like a pretty awesome game when it comes to real-life friends, since it seems like a whole bunch of them play it (Facebook search FTW).
Currently, I'm completely clueless about the game: I still don't know much about many of the units, upgrades, builds, etc. However, I've been watching streams ever since players began using them, and I thus developed an unconscious idea of how the game flows as a whole; that is, I have a rough idea of the 'big picture.'
Since I totally despise not having a plan when beginning to do something new, I did some research and found Filter's "Bronze to Masters" guide. It's pretty good. I began to practice meeting his benchmarks against the AI for a good thirty games or so before I decided to jump into the then dreaded placement matches. I skipped the practice league altogether because I can't stand, for the love of my life, playing in normal speed and having to crack through silly anti-rush stuff (plus, the players there really take their sweet time).
I ended up 4-1'ing my way into the mid Platinum league, steamrolling over a top Gold player and getting my butt handed to me on a silver platter by a Platinum player. As of right now, I'm on the 52nd position and have been winning and losing games against Platinum players of all levels. I've never lost a game against a Gold player, but the system seems to match me up against a few of them the moment I go on a losing streak in my league. It's really weird because I honestly don't feel like I belong neither in the Gold league nor in the Platinum league, but somewhere in between.
All in all, I've got my macro down to a non-crappy extent, my micro is okay, and my game knowledge is floating down the drain; not long ago, I consciously massed Marines and Marauders against Zealots, Archons and High Templars. What the hell? I'd also say that my TvZ winning ratio is of about 5%, and my best MU must be TvT, with perhaps a 50% winning ratio.
Simply put, I'm a total mess right now and would love to make some friends to play a few games against, talk StarCraft with, and such. <3 I'm aiming toward Diamond next season! If that's even doable.

Welcome dude, I promise you it will be good, its not nearly as bad as a lot of elitists form BW say it is. Its actually very fun, but be careful, there is a lot of hacking right now, but mostly around masters level.
