For those who don't know what NAQT is, NAQT is an quiz-bowl organization for high schools and colleges.
And I'm excited to say that Starcraft 2 got a question.
It went "In this video game, one of its user-created modes is titled Storm of the Imperial Troopers. The podcast State of the Game..."
Obviously, that's where I rung in for a power =P and thats how far it got for the question and I didn't hear any more but there was a Starcraft 2 question at NAQT.
Other than that, my team got our ass handed to us when we went 3-7 (tho all 7 games were close matches), but now my last time representing my school is over and I graduate soon =P
Peace out Atlanta, time to head back to El Paso.
Hopefully I'll meet some pros during my layover at Austin (will be rocking my TL shirt)

You lost 3-7 but all 7 games were close matches ??? Are you sure vladimir putin didn't rig the games ?

Hahaha, hey, I powered that too! I was like 99% sure on State of the Game, and buzzed on Artosis and powered it. My team went 5-5, and lost a really close 10th match vs the 61st seed card holder, but I fucked up Foster Wallace and Seaward on the toss ups and lost. X_X Sigh...
My school's A team made 13th at Nationals though and took down High Tech A. :D Crazy fun weekend.

My school's team is pretty decent but we didn't go this year. I was the only one who was avalaible. http://hsqbrank.wordpress.com/2012/05/24/your-final-pre-nationals-rankings-for-2012/#more-280 We are Gonzaga (82) but we have beaten Georgetown A(#15), Montgomery Blair A(22) and Richard Montgomery A(23) in straight up fights with their full HSNCT teams. We just some times field really crappy teams that kind of mess up our record It's too bad your a senior. I will def being going next year and it would've been nice to see some people from TL.

Do we have any threads for quiz bowl here on TL? It seems we would have a fair amount of players here.
|
Wow, we should have had a TL meetup in the hotel =P My team didn't make playoffs but we were ranked decently individually. Our main problem was that we were getting stupid obscure bonuses while other teams were getting easy shit like Johnny Depp
But that one school from San Jose that was seeded 8th was crazy. I watched their matches and damn they are fast.

Hey, I play college quiz bowl, there was an SCII question (which I powered) at Penn Bowl last year.
Text:
18. During one tournament for this activity, Gimix decided to throw two games to a Ukrainian player then sponsored by Duckload, because the extended-series rule put him ahead. In 2011, the same two players faced each other in best of seven series at both Dreamhack Winter and NASL Season Two Grand Finals: Liquid’Hero and EGPuma. This winner of the 2011 National Championships at (*) MLG Providence for this e-sport was Leenock who defeated the Swedish player Naniwa in the finals by rushing his opponent’s Forge Fast Expand at the natural base. Two foreigner fan-favorites in this e-sport are Huk and Idra, both of whom were Code S in the GSL. Many fans of this e-sport want pros like Bisu, Jaedong, and Flash to switch over from the previous installment of this game’s series, Brood War. For 10 points, name this second installment in a Blizzard RTS series where players can be Terran, Protoss, or Zerg. ANSWER: Starcraft II
Pretty meh imo, the clues from "Dreamhack Winter" to "Flash" are all around the same difficulty--not a very pyramidal slope.
Oh also there was another one at ACF Fall (which my teammate negged me out of [with Starcraft I no less] and promptly got berated for)
2.Units in this game say such phrases as “I’m bringing the pain and the pizza in 30 minutes or it’s free” and “What’s your sign, baby? Mine’s explosives!” Jorium and Terrazine are important in one part of its campaign. Donny Vermillion gets placed in a mental institution resulting in Kate Lockwell taking over his news program in this game. In this game, the player is given the option to side with either Nova Terra or Gabriel Tosh, which determines whether they will be able to train spectres or ghosts. Its story ends with a de-infested Queen of Blades being carried off by Jim Raynor. For 10 points, name this 2010 Blizzard game, the successor to Brood War. ANSWER: StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty [or Wings of Liberty; do not accept “StarCraft”]

HSNCT was a 240 team tournament that used a card system and power matching, so it's definitely feasible that they played a bunch of close games.
Also haha it looks like we could have a quiz bowl thread on TL

the fact that 3 people on the B team made it 2 days in Atlanta without being hospitalized or arrested is a victory in itself.
and holy shit you guys had a nice run. no shame in losing to st. anselms, aiden was already ridiculous when i was playing (2 years ago)
also, i remember getting destroyed by bellarmine (i think the same group), but i never thought nikhil and co. would become HSNCT champions. grats to them
