Hey guys,
I want to polish my written english skills a good bit (not a native speaker). However, having a fair bit insight in how advertising works on the internet, I noticed that apparently creative writing is one of those niches overflowing with crap. Cheap guru bullshit galore.
So since here are many many gifted people on TeamLiquid from all walks of life (artists, college kids, self-employed and many many more), what materials/ressources can you guys recommend?
Mandatory read for the ones who believe to know what I need or want better than myself: I know that I really want creative writing and not improve anything else with my written english, thank you. I am already fairly proficient in writing technical texts using technical vocabulary, what lacks is my ability to write entertaining and captivating texts to people.
Thanks guys!

Pretty much every book on creative writing will tell you one thing: to learn how to write, you need to grab a pen (or a keyboard), and start writing. There's different exercises and suggestions on how to approach it, but all of those are really a matter of preference - what works for one person, might not work for another. There really isn't any magic or special tricks to it though, it's really just about reading a lot, and writing a lot.

a.) Just start writing every day. 350 words at least every day.
b.) What genre? Depending on what you're trying to write, the advice will vary.

^^What they said. Read consistently (a good 50 pages a day, at the very least, doesn't have to be in english) and write at least a page or two a day. Usually throw this away. The benefit comes from the practice. If you think you have a good idea, save it. But throw away all decent and "ok" ideas. Don't grow attached to any one concept and just keep writing.
