Hey folk of TL
This is my first blog and I have some ranting to do. It is about the PvP matchup. I don't understand it. How can a matchup that was once so bad become even worse? Before we get to that, let me tell you my story.
I was laddering today as usual and I came across another protoss. I though great, another loss for sure. The game started and skip forward a bit, the opponent 4 gates. WHO THE HELL STILL 4 GATES?! Anyways, I hold it off. He never came up my ramp as I had 2 immortals. Instead he ff my ramp and ran. Once the ff was over, i went to his base only to find a collosus with an expo there. ToT
I had already taken my expo while moving out. So I proceed to get my own collosus. And now it is a collosus fest. GEE big surprise. I am so sick of it. People 4 gate and can still make it to the late game and WIN. I am fucking sick of this matchup. It is fucking terrible for us Gold players. I also put down alot of gates and a templar archives for archons. This matchup is fucked. That is all.
What do you guys think of the matchup and let me know if you guys want the replay.

He 4 gated and got to your ramp when you had 2 immortals.

What you're describing shouldn't be possible. You played badly.

Yeah man, how did you have 2 immortals before the 4 gate hit? Also, if you have a robo make sure you scout what he's doing with an observer so there shouldn't be any surprises.

i think pvp has gotten better once that 4gate isn't that instant-win anymore, and has become less rock-paper-scissory

I disagree about the last part, it seems completely rock paper scissory to me. Obviously the better player will win a lot of the time, but theres still a lot of luck involved. For example. most of the time you chose your build blindly. The build I chose I find is the safest most well rounded build (blink obs), but on most maps it ends up behind against an immortal expand. But on these maps, if I were to go for an immortal expand, and they were to go phoenix, then I would end up behind.
Not to mention I can still win most of my PvP's with a 4gate followed by one base collosus push if they hold the 4gate.
To me, PvP feels like this.
Phoenix > Robo > Blink > Phoenix, and Safe > Aggressive > Greedy > Safe. And considering how difficult it is to scout in PvP, most of the time you are playing blind .
But, even though it has been proven to be the most volatile matchup out there, a masters player would still never lose to a plat/diamond player. So there is also a lot of skill involved.

dat timing. lol i couldn't stop laughing : ) yea did you make a obs to scout?

I actually quite like the match up at the moment. There's more diversity in PvP than in PvT (mainly early or mid game pressure to avoid late game) or PvZ (Roaches either to kill or carry into Infestor/Corruptor/Broodlord).
Scouting is crucial in PvP and it sounds like you didn't scout enough to be honest.
Would you mind giving a link to the replay?

Here is the replay : http://drop.sc/174840
I actually played really badly. And correction, it was 1 immortal. The second came soon after
While we are at it. Any adjustments/tips? I thought he was making that many zeals because I had 2 immortals. Never occured to me that he could be going collosus. I sent a probe in soon after the 4 gate to check expansion.

If you didn't get supply blocked and hit better forcefields in the beginning you probably could have just attacked with a few immortals and gateway units and won. Or at least got your expo up much sooner and delaying his at the same time.
When I find myself trapped in my base by an opponent camping outside my main I generally just bust out when I get 1 or 2 colossi then expand or attack. You always gotta keep an eye out for when your opponent is expanding so that you can make the appropriate call whether to attack or expand yourself.
And make sure you're getting upgrades, his were way ahead of yours.
And if you know he's going double robo colossi, getting void rays can work pretty well. But that's not necessary it's just a preference of mine.

I think that I am going to practice getting/refining a build with a stargate mid game or a stargate opening. I usually open 2 gate blink and transition into charge and archons with double robo on 3 bases. But alot of the battles come down to positioning and splitting.
And yes, I need to refine alot of my mechanics XDDDD
