On April 30th my methodology is due. Being the overachieving idiot I am, I decided that I should put in a ton of extra effort and make my life even more difficult simply because I wanted to fluff up what data I'll have to present when I actually finish my thesis.
Long story short, I'm going to host a tournament. I know nothing about hosting tournaments! My friend graciously hooked me up with a couple of routers I can use - thankfully, since it's a school thesis and the school wants it to be hosted there and their wireless sucks. I can only hope there's actually enough people in the community to make it a decent-sized tournament. Since I need to hand out surveys, I really want them to be all local.
Just filling out this gantt chart makes me want to transfer to another school and forget this whole endeavor...the amount of research I haven't done yet is phenominal. Since I've decided that I'm going to make a business plan for this eSports association, I also have to research what exactly a business plan is. And it's about twenty pages longer than I expected it to be :s
According to this website I found, a business plan looks something like this:
- Executive Summary: A page or two of highlights.
- Company Description: Legal establishment, history, start-up plans, etc.
- Product or Service: Describe what you’re selling. Focus on customer benefits.
- Market Analysis: You need to know your market, customer needs, where they are, how to reach them, etc.
- Strategy and Implementation: Be specific. Include management responsibilities with dates and budget.
- Management Team: Include backgrounds of key members of the team, personnel strategy, and details.
- Financial Plan: Include profit and loss, cash flow, balance sheet, break-even analysis, assumptions, business ratios, etc.
All in all, I'll end up with a five page introduction, a twenty page ROL on esports, gaming and business strategies, three pages of methodology, a 30 page business plan with as much financial and administrative stuff that I can shove down its throat, two or so pages of ethics guidelines for the players, a copy of a one-page survey and two or three pages of analysis and another three pages of conclusions and speculation.....
estimated completion time: probably never deadline: november 16th
I GOT THIS.

Good luck. Can't wait for this reading!

Don't forget the additional success criteria: Still wanting to have anything to do with esports after doing the project.

At first I thought this was going to be another "help me give a speech to my class or write about ESPORTS despite me not having the skill to do either of the two" blog. Pleasantly surprised to see that you probably know what you are doing. Keep us updated!

Yeah, that's going to be the big whopper. One of my friends has kindly offered to help with the tournament - though I believe that's probably because the majority of his family wants to join in and they have amazing odds of winning - so hopefully that'll keep me from going completely insane It also gives me an excuse to play SC2 and say I'm testing maps for the map pool!

Haha, thanks! my thesis teacher doesn't know anything about eSports but she made it abundantly clear I had to know what I was doing before the school would approve anything. It's amazing how much information is actually out there once you look (and spend 5 months researching and writing about it)
