This guy, although most likely a troll, kept going on about how he was going to kill himself and just wanted to talk to me. Although I know he is probably trolling, it just feels kind of weird when he says "my death is partially your fault" after the game (he wanted to pause to talk more when I beat him.. but I unpaused so I could win and he took at as bm apparently as I was being manner before). there's always like that 99.9% chance he's serious which is kind of weird. How would you handle a situation like this?

LOL so I dono. On one hand I'm human and picture the .1% chance that he is serious and thus try to tell him to call someone. On the other hand, I picture some idiot who's going to post this on reddit or something for the L3wLz. I am surprisingly human though and felt kind of weird after this game.
What would you do? lol

Hmm, I feel the same way. From my experiences with the internet this is almost guaranteed to be fake, but it is also kind of a weird way to try and troll.
The last sentence makes it seem like it is a troll though, few suicidal people that I have seen blame it on someone else.

If you're unsure whether he did it or not, add him as a friend so you can see if he logs on again.
That's probably what I'd do if I felt bad after something like that. :/

The short, short answer - there's nothing you can do. Best you can do is report him to Blizzard - because really, even if he's not a troll and he's serious, b.net's structure doesn't let you know where he is, who he is, or give you any other possible recourse than the report function.

It depends. Suicidal individuals run a gamut of possible responses depending on where they are in the thought process that can end with suicide. Most people that have made a firm commitment to themselves to end their lives actually look like they're happier - because they've made the decision, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel. (In manner of speaking.)
In terms of what you can do for yourself - best thing is to realize that there's nothing you can do, and that you cannot be held responsible for the actions of others. So report, block, and move on.

I honestly don't think you responded appropriately. :/ One win isn't really worth egging on a potentially suicidal person. It doesn't matter if it turned out to be a lie; you had no way of knowing whether or not he was serious when he initiated the conversation, and the correct thing to do would be to assume he is serious. If you weren't willing to talk with him you should have, at the very least, ignored him. Laughing at him and calling him a liar were probably the worst things you could have done.

If this had been an actual person from the internet seriously telling you they were suicidal then you did pretty much everything you could. Now that you know they're a troll then it's no stain on your conscience, so I'm glad you're breathing easier!
For the future, you could always recommend a random internet person to call the nation suicide hotline (if they're not trolling, of course). They're well trained for situations where someone is thinking about it and need to talk with someone. You could google the 800 number and give it to them.

In that situation, I would offer to chat with him after the game for as long as he wants while offering the disclaimer that I'm not the right person to talk about this with. If he doesn't want to wait to chat, he should leave the game first.
Then I can one-up or match him on any mom-cancer-death story. And we can cry together if he believes me, or I can get out of the conversation if he doesn't.
