Idea to combat stream cheaters

I don't know if this has been thought of, but it just occurred to me. I see some pro players ladder under the IIIIIIIIIII player name. Now Blizzard allow many people to have the same name, so why don't all the players on top teams create a laddering/streaming account with the name "IIIIIIIIIIIIII" or something of that nature, so that anytime some random masters player meets a person with this name they don't know who it is or if they happen to be streaming at that point in time. It would also combat meta gaming, so players could test new builds.

Don't some people stream snipe in order to stream cheat? - Well tbh I don't really know, but i suspect most of the time it happens they just quickly load up the stream at the beginning of the game. Also, I think it is possible to hide exactly when you are searching for a match with overlays etc.

The only downside I can see is that the top of the ladder will look like a bit of a mess if half the people's names are IIIIIIIIIIIII, but I would hardly care about this from a players perspective. Blizzard have placed the issue of stream cheaters completely outside their control, so they cannot complain if players react in this way to deal with the issue.

I actually think that less stream cheating goes on than streamers believe, but this would if nothing else set their minds at ease.

Anyone who stream cheats is just dishonest to begin with and doubts their ability to beat a said player. Atleast that's my view.

I don't think Blizzard will do anything about it-- because plainly, if you're streaming.. you're allowing that risk. You didn't see Nestea streaming at GSL when he won, now did you? Haha.

As far as your idea, I think it's just a roundabout way of going around things. If you stream, you're aware of the risk.

ladder stream cheat doesnt matter that much since progamers usually have a shitton of ladder points, and its not for money or prestiege (relative to tournaments). it wont combat metagaming cause sooner or later ppl are gonna figure out that the top 16 gm llllllllll is a progamer.

If ALL the top players use the same name how are you going to know which one it is. There have to be more than 100 people on well known teams that could use the same name on each server

While some people do indeed use the barcode ID to hide their identity... why should people be forced to change their ID to stop stream cheaters? Putting a 30 second lag on their stream is much simpler.

The way I understand it people will usually tune in to the stream first, then search for a ladder game right after they see the player searching on stream to get paired up vs him.Your proposal won't help prevent this.

I also do not think people run into known players on the ladder trying to check for streams in a spontaneous fashion.Playing on a barcode account would indeed help with that.

Like you said, simply hiding the exact time you initiate the search by putting up an overlay or running a commercial would be a way to help prevent getting "sniped".

I think this has been figured out for the most part (correct me if it is still a chronic issue), I know IdrA uses a really, really long delay on his stream so that people cant que up at the same time, which is the main way the people connect with streamers.

Legit progamers have insane ratios, you'll know. You're ignoring everything else I said though. The main issue with stream cheating isn't the ladder. It's the online tournaments and qualifiers that can possibly lead to seeding in bigger tournaments. I don't get why you would ever make a huge deal out of the few ppl that stream cheat over ladder. People like that won't even make a dent on the progamer's ladder record.
