So, I kinda want to start something that I'm sure will be way over my head, but I'm curious about the interest. I'd like to start like a 100 man individual league in SC2, with players of all sorts of skill levels.
The format I'm thinking would be a certain time frame for the season, and players required to play x number of games against others in that league over the course of the season.
After that season is ended, we can have a bracket made of the top 64 players, and a tournament made just for shits.
The basic idea would create a database of players that you can contact at any time to play games against, and have a record of those games kept so you can see how you're doing against x player. I figure each match can be a Bo3, which would give players of all skill levels BoX experience, and I legitimately think it would be a lot of fun.
I also think that with programs like SC2Gears, keeping track of a league type format would be much easier than it was previously, and with a google doc it's really just a matter of whoever is running the league inputting data as necessary.
I guess the point to the blog is to see if anyone else thinks this kind of thing might actually work, or be worthwhile. I'm going to brainstorm some stuff at lunch today, so we'll see what happens I guess.

You're talking about implementing your own ladder. It's a fine idea, but I think you're going to doom yourself if you really implement it using a spreadsheet. Even for a ladder of 100 people, you're going to need an automated system of some kind. If you have 100 people, even if everyone plays only 3 games a day on average, then you've already got a full-time job just doing data entry, with no time for resolving disputes, promoting your league, or actually playing the game yourself.

I wish Bnet had an option for this

I could be wrong, but can't you do this with sc2ranks?
EDIT: Nevermind, looks like that's just the same as a Battle.net division, you're not actually playing against those people.

Sounds like a pretty neat idea, albeit with a mountain of motivation and dedication needed to pull off.

Well the way I see it, Sc2 gears should be able to determine number of games, winners, losers, etc. based on the players, no?
I figured it would take more work than I thought originally, had been hoping to hear the incredulous responses honestly, gives me more to think about. Thanks dudes.
