Sup guys. I just wanted to mention this fun turn based strategy game I've been playing. Some guys in Sweden started it. It is based on an old turn based game called warlords.

Just like Starcraft, the goal is to destroy your opponents.

There is a ladder.

There are around 30 different types of units, each with strengths, weaknesses etc.

Different armies cost more to produce, more for upkeep, and take more turns to complete.

The game revolves around building poweful stacks. Up to 8 units can be grouped into a "stack". Many units give all other units in the stack a bonus. So good stacks can destroy exponentially more than they lose if they are built well. It's not uncommon to have a super strong stack kill dozens of units for no losses.

Anyways, if any of you need a break from the strain of SC or SC2, check this out:

To say that I'm missing the point, you would first have to show that such work can have a point.

if you need another turn based there is Battle for Wesnoth. I'll try this out sometime this week when I get a chance, thanks!

Another fast paced and easy-going game is Weewars. Don't get held up by the name, this game takes a lot of skill and tactical thought.

Eh, I'm not really a fan of those correspondence-based games. It seems like it'd run into the same problem as correspondence chess: If I take 30 minutes on every move to calculate everything out, and you don't, I can beat you even if you're a fair bit better than me.
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)

Well, there is a 24 hour time limit. And the fog of war and ability to choose the units you produce makes it quite a bit different than chess (where you have perfect information). Don't get me wrong, I'm a competitive chess player and I would NEVER play correspondence chess...it just doesn't appeal to me. I don't get not playing with a clock. Regardless, check out warbarons, you may like it.

I got a game called Frozen Synapse a year ago in a Humble Bundle. Essentially it is a simultaneous turn-based tactical strategy game. You input commands to your units and attempt to account for how you think your opponent will move; both players send in their moves to a central server and then the turn plays out. Each turn lasts a couple of seconds. It's pretty fun and has a correspondence component to it as well: you can play multiple games with different people and can submit your turns at any time to continue an ongoing game.
