If you came here expecting
[image loading]
Then you came here expecting the wrong thing. Sad panda :-(

But if you came here expecting
[image loading]
Then congratulations! You are our winner! (You win my eternal surprise that you came expecting that)

So what is this blog about 3FFA, you ask? It is about my failure to drink anywhere close to a gallon of water a day even though I am eating very well otherwise.

You see I drink about 2-4 cups of water every day. You heard me right. Only 2-4 cups. I have trouble uhh... not sure how to phrase this so I won't. I need my water but I hate drinking water. For some reason it feels like a chore to drink it instead of a nice glass of orange or apple juice or milk.

First of all, I want to know why I have this problem. Is it because of less advertising for water? Is it because my life is just commercialized to the point that I think about what to eat/drink by what food I see on T.V. and forget about any others? Is it due to the feeling of water not staying in my memory?

Second of all, I want to know how to fix my problem. Any tips what so ever will be good.

FInally, I want to know whether you have had this problem. I feel alone in my problem . How did you fix it? Did you stare at your observer flying over water? Did you somehow forget about how tasty lava looks like it could be if it was edible? Or maybe something completely different like staring at your ugly 70 year old teacher during class instead of working?

2 words: Help me.

P.s. I ask partly because I've gone past the whole 1-week no shit medical emergency thing multiple times during my teenage life and I need help.

all jokes aside as someone who drinks a lot of water and used to drink a lot of soda (don't at all anymore although I do drink the occasional glass of juice 2-3 a week) It helps a lot to cut down on the amount of sweet things you consume, liquids or foods. I love drinking water and before got almost all of my water in drinks (juice, soda, diet soda etc) and one of the big things that made this change possible was eating a higher protein diet (high protein items generally are less sweet). You get so used to a level of sweetness but that can change, now Soda tastes syrupy as hell to me and way to sweet. Try just cutting back on the sweets (note Diet soda is a big killer, even though it has no calories it still perpetuates the craving for sweets)

Nobody ever really drinks a gallon of water regularly, if i did i would spend every 30 mins taking a piss.

The best way to make yourself want to drink water? Exercise do some cardio work out that leaves you about to die, i play basketball once a week with some friends and i definitely drink close to a gallon of gatorade/water in a 4 hour period.

Another way is to eat salty food saltine crackers are a big winner or even chips (which is probably going to be less healthy but you wanted suggestions!)

Lastly, just drink water or really watered down ice teas/lemonade, i drink sode maybe once every two weeks. As a kid i never drank water but now i am really tired of soda's flavor and carbonation. If you just make it a habit to drink everything with water (its also cheaper) you will do fine.

And i thought this was going to be a blog about drinking habits

I don't drink a ton of water either... I agree with you that it can seem like a chore. It just doesn't have any appeal, unless I'm sweating or tired or something.

Maybe you should try finding a type of flavored water that you like, like Propel, Crystal Light, or flavored sparkling water...

Sure some of those have small amounts of sugar in them (a lot of them are sugar free though), but it's a pretty small amount if it's there, and it's like 99% water in most cases. It makes water taste much better and be more appealing IMO. I drink soda all the time, but when I have the option to drink fruit-flavored water, I'll usually pick it over soda because I know it's healthier, and it still gives a good taste.

You don't actually need to drink that much water unless you work out regularly. If you're the average office sofa desk bed car everywhere person, there is absolutely no need to drink so much water.

Also, when people say you need to drink alot of water every day, it includes other liquids. Thus, a glass of lemonade is also a glass of water. Doesn't need to be pure water.

When I first came to college I realized that I wasn't drinking nearly as much water as I used to simply because there are actually no water fountains on the floor in my dorm and for some reason I don't like the idea of drinking sink water out of the floor bathroom. To help this I simply try to keep a bottle of water near my computer in my room (where I spend the majority of my time) now. Usually I'll drink the whole thing pretty much subconsciously within a few hours, and then I just go refill. If you make drinking water the most convenient option for your body when you're thirsty drinking it becomes pretty natural

This couldn't be more wrong. What do you think your brain uses for fuel? Orange Juice? Nestea? Sure, there's some water in that, but your brain couldn't give a fuck about the lemons in lemonade. It uses the water. It doesn't matter whether or not you work out, you should be drinking a gallon of water every day in order to feed your brain properly. If you work out, you should be drinking even more water, as it is in my opinion the most underrated nutrient (lifters seem to always remember protein, creatine, carbs etc., but never water).

Thanks guys! Also, I am not going broke, I just finished a bunch of classes on how not to get broke and got A's and B's so it would just make me hate myself lol. What you guys said makes sense though about not needing it unless you exercise but that also goes against everything I've learned and uhh... I kinda have trouble getting my stuff out when I "go go":p. I might try RoninShogun's advice first.

What exactly is your problem? If you prefer orange juice, drink orange juice. Its a lot of sugar, but its liquid the body needs as well. I personally drink tea/water and I have no problem with it, but if you just don't like the taste and want to drink something without sugar, you can go for coke zero/light as well.

Its a good alternative and might not be SUPER HEALTHY, but in terms of sugar its no harm at all. Coke Zero is a very good alternative to water because its basically just that + coloring and saccharine I think. So... I dont see a problem.

Listen to this guy. I used to hate water. Then one day I started a running regimen and water was the only thing I wanted to drink. It's about 4 years later, and I don't exercise quite as much, but water is about the only thing I drink. That and G2 Gatorade!

Me too, but all things considered, it's probably better that it turned out to be water/hydration.

Have you tried sparkling water?

A glass of lemonade is at least 99% water. Therefore, it's just as good to drink a glass of lemonade as it is a glass of water. We agree yes?

Also, the recommended daily is 3 liters of water for adult men, not a gallon. Depending on OP's physiology, gender, and age, it could be more/less. I never said don't drink water, I said don't over-do it.

anyway, back to the OP: get in the habit of carrying a water-bottle around with you, or having a glass of water on your desk while you work/surf/game. It'll help you get your dihydrogen oxide intake without it being a chore.

I made a rule for myself that I don't drink anything other than water before 5pm which has worked for me! I actually enjoy water now, once you drink it a lot other drinks seem really really sweet except for black tea/coffee. Although I still like milkis (when I can find it).

Im here to help you out.

Everywhere you go, think to yourself, how can I get water out of this situation?
In the shower? there's an open flow of water right in front of you! drink it up!
girlfriend crying? Don't waste those tears!
flooded road? put a cup out the window and scoop some up as you drive by!

the possibilities are endless. Take advantage of any opportunities you get! the best part is that all these water sources will taste very different and interesting, so you'll never be blase over water again!

Hi guys,

The "8 cups of water a day" is a complete myth. Your body does a great job telling you if you need water--you get thirsty.

If you're not thirsty, then you're doing fine. Your body gets plenty of water from food, in addition to whatever beverages you consume.

There was this period of time one summer where I was just chugging down a a ridiculous amount of water a day. I had a pack of Dasani and just stuck it under my bed, and apparently my laziness won out over my desire to get out of my room and find something else to drink, so I always went to water as a default over every other drink...

Interesting. I always have had my changes in life/eating/sleeping/etc. habits happen during the Summer. Awesome time to relax and have some life changes.

Man I drink like a gallon and a half a day. I do have to piss every 2 hours or so though. I try to drink 1 bottle of water every 2-4 hours. Hydration is the key to success!

You know you can count some of those juices towards your gallon a day. If you drink a gallon of Milk everyday and a couple glasses of water your not going to die.

My tip keep a glass in your bathroom and just drink. Or work landscaping in the sun. I downed 1-2 gallons between 8AM-5PM everyday.

One gallon per day is way too much. I guess it's only recommended if you do a lot of sports and/or live in a very hot area.

I don't agree with that at all, getting thirsty is a way for your body to tell you that you are already dehydrated and need to drink. It's obviously better to prevent it by drinking before getting thirsty.

My suggestion is to drink a ton of liquor and get super wasted every night, then the next morning you'll be dying for water all day.

Easy way to stay healthy!

It's because there is no Sugar in water, you have probably drank drinks with tons of sugar your whole life(like orange/apple juice). You just aren't used to it.

One thing which certainly helps me a lot to drink enough/more water (I try to drink at least 2L a day + coffee) is using a glass. I'm just drinking more and more regularily using a glass compared to drinking directly out of the bottle, don't know why, but that's the way it is.
