Hey all it been awhile since i posted here (in the blog section) but i have recently came to a cross roads.
but first let me give you a lead up to this situation, I am a 16 year old guy and i have just recently moved to South Carolina from Detroit (big difference) things were so close by up there i didnt really need a car i could just walk any were i needed and had friends who drove if there was a party or the such, things down here though are so far away to get out of my sub by car is a 10 min drive.. so i have taken up riding my bike (i have a very nice bike that i used to do iceman with)
but up north i have been dealing with this computer that my parents bought 4 years ago specs are: o 1.8 ghz amd quad core o radeon 4200hd onboard gpu o 4 gigis of ddr2 ram
so imagine trying to game on this... kinda sucks i had an 8800GT on there but it was old and gave out
fast forward a month to x-mas i ask for just money from my parents and other family members and i come up with 500$ that i was going to put towards a computer i was gonna build i was expecting about 300 more give or take from other family members that said they would pitch in. ive been holding on to this 500$ for 2 months now with no further money put forward
along comes my dad today after school saying he is getting a very large check tomorrow for work so i make him the offer of him putting 200$ in for my computer so i can build it and he can have 250$ of what i get from other family.. i was hoping this would work he counter offered with ill give you 4 grand if you put your 500$ in for a car.. trust me i was thrilled thats 4500$ for a car, which is a really nice car The Car <----Probably this one
So TL can you help me decide im just stuck right now

TL:DR Car or Computer?

Car. Then you can drive to a job and save even more money for a better computer!
|
I was leaning towards computer until i saw that you would receive alot more for the car. I like biking myself but just keep in mind that the car will have alot of upkeep costs. insurance and tune ups and all of that. But if you can get that much extra money now and you do want the car and are willing to accept the upkeep I would take the car.

You're asking TL... you should know the answer already!
Computer gets my vote. 16 years old, sure you can get your license now (depends where you live, but probably can) but as for owning a car, I'd put that off until you graduate high school, at the earliest.

Ya... you should know the answer to this yourself. If you go out to parties more than get the car so you can pick up girls -.^

well the thing is everything down here is 15 miles+ away so its literally an hour bike ride ANY place plus id want to be able to take my gf/future gf's out and not have my ma drive us and or her parents -_- that and i live right next to the beach so being able to drive i would be able to get there and ya all that jazz
but i also spend alot of time on the PC just BSing with some clan mates which i enjoy very much

Definitely, the car. I mean, you are American!
Just kidding...
But seriously, my pick would be the car, BUT, as I don't live in America, it's difficult for me to do a vote that's relevant to your dilemma :S
Gratz though!

Can you borrow your parents car? I never owned a car until I graduated university, same as most of my friends :X
I guess I'd vote save it? lol But that's my personality. They don't really seem like big necessities right now, more like cash sinks for when you're 16.

VW is shit anyways so even if you were going to get a car, I wouldn't recommend getting that one.

well we only have one car and my dad works afternoons so im trapped at home even if i could get my ma to drive me places she cant.. there is no car
and yea cash does suck i dont have a steady income so i get big expensive things once in a blue moon
but wow how did you survive collage without a car?!
|
Only 16 and you have the privilege to be able to make a choice like this? Damn. Lucky you .
If I were you, I'd just save the money for now, but if you really had to get one or the other, go with the car.

but wow how did you survive collage without a car?! No one had a car when I went to school. We all lived in dorms 1st year and then the nearby student ghetto in 2nd - 4th year. Walked to school, walked to the bars. I guess it depends on how big your school is. Maybe it's different in the US? No idea.

Chill is right. Save it to get some interests while borrowing parent's car unless you really party a lot and/or go out a lot then go for the car. Imo you're only 16 and well your car is going to cost you a lot of money with all it's upkeep / insurances / fuel etc.
The computer isn't that important unless you really have some study that requires a decent computer.
So either save money and use parent's car or buy the car if it saves you a lot of time traveling and such.

Cannot say for sure, as I do not know all the details and motivations behind your eventual decision. But I would go with the car.

Hey, what part of SC do you live in? Charlestonian here.
I'd definitely say car, since it's impossible to get much of anywhere without one. Plus, you can probably get a job over the summer (that you would have to drive to more than likely) in order to get more money to pay for gas and save up for a computer. Though, you know your situation best so don't rely on our advice too much :3
