Hi guys,
I've been away from the forums the last five months because I'm doing a year-long intensive Chinese language program in Beijing. I'd like to share a little of what I got up to last semester:
Pandas Are Turning People Into Baozi: The Movie
Note: due to record label copyrights we were unable to publish on youtube. Youku is the Chinese version of youtube which, while more highly censored, has more relaxed copyright regulations.
Third year students--the level just starting to get confident with conversation ability--were divided into six groups. Each group was given two weeks to write and translate a story as well as film and edit it, all the while attending 4 hours of intensive language class each morning. We were required to speak only Chinese and include footage of interaction with locals.
After the two weeks we had a screening of all six movies, and our group was voted best picture. Let me know what you guys think, especially any native Chinese speakers. Hope you enjoy!

I'm not going to watch this for 2 reasons:
1. Your chinese will be worse than mine, and I'll just cringe so hard that I won't be able to watch 
2. Your chinese will be better than mine, and I will die in shame as it's confirmed I am a fail asian

As someone who is also studying Chinese, but in Canada, this was a very entertaining watch! (Even though I only understood like 10% of it)

Thanks for the subtitles, I don't know any Chinese, but this was pretty funny, especially the interactions with locals : P

It's really well produced, and your Chinese is very good. Talking nonsense to the locals was really brave too.
I didn't quite understand from the op- are you a first year or 3rd year student? You say you're doing a year long course, but also that the task was for 3rd year students... 我不明白

This director is so much better than George Lucas. There were some super literal English-to-Chinese expressions though that don't really make sense in Chinese. Which makes it funnier IMO :D

All the students who come to this program arrive with different levels of language skills. Third year means you've already taken two years back in the States, or your skills are thereabouts at that level. So now I'm a fourth year student since the first semester of intensive language classes here was enough to boost my skills to that level.

Yeah we made sure our English subtitles were funny even if it meant the Chinese was nonsensical in places. Our audience was a bunch of American university students, after all.
