Hi guys,
seems like bloging is hard - Sorry... new job told me 2 weeks then called me 3 days laters, and this blog, and well sc2 in general fell by the side, I've been able to sneak in a good few games in the last week, but just ... well no real anaysis, aside from lowest win rate being zvz... but I'm attributing this to my use of a greedy macro style, hatch first into just a few banes and late speed to turtle while powering drones... this might be the best style overall it it can lead to few loses... heh
as I'm starting to get into the swing of things and rebalacne my time I'm totally going to start updating... but quality posts just are harder to come by...
now... what I might do if people are intestered is follow some of the work and thoughts and tribulations of someone who host bar carfts ... you might know (if you're local) that I MC and help host a number of viewing parties in toronto --- E-Sports Canada a super sick non-profit group host 4 plus simulatanious barcrafts in the Ontario (Canada no Cali lol) and Toronto area... It's a total blast... but hey not sure if anyone cares about the details... just tossing it out ...
Anyways.. Sorry guys, I'm really disapointed that I couldn't give you guys more quality content over the last week+ but I'm going to push to get out what I can ...
what I will say which you may/may not have seen.... a post by blizzard themselves
http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/4389268/Climbing_the_Ladder_How_to_earn_a_League_Promotion-1_31_2012
with great details about how to be promoted...
It says that 900 points in diamond should 99% get you promoted... I'm currently 600 or so... which means at an average of 15 points a game... I just need to bring up my win/loss up +20 games....
just 20 more wins than loses and I should hit masters.... crazy that I have a real concrete goal... but really kinda ... well thats a lot of wins man!!...thats not just 20 wins, but 20 more wins than loses... still I have the goal... and away I GOOO
|
Good luck, man. I got currently 300 points in Diamond, so I just gave up on getting 600 points in one week. <_< Just remember to keep a 60%+ win ratio and you should be fine. (:

I did a similar thing 2 seasons I go.. I really say don't give up play what you can--- the mmr totally 100% carry's over so there really isn't anything lost... even if it is a little disapointing
|
Well just lost 4 games in a row, zvz each, each one they just ling flood/zerg bane all in at what should be 100% defendable times and each time I fuck up and lose...
so thats another 10$ into the swear jar..... I'm opening roach now I don't care if exploitable I need a more fool proof def if I want to keep playing, my hands are just to slow right now
|
Galleon, I think you were opening right before. Are you losing because they ling bane you before you get spines/banes up? Or just poor control? If the latter, don't switch openings, work at the control! There's a reason it's standard right now: roach openers cede too much map control, the opponent can take a quick third if you open roaches.

heh ya thanks for the support, I'm going to give up on it entirely but even in games where I scout it, get the timings decent, I still lose by a combo of weaker than usual control and trying to be greedy
It's just the raoch opening is so just ling 'em up at ramp and push h and instantwin vs any bane aggression and my hands are horrible right now ...
thanks for the support man, really helps when I come back from a rage inducing game to see awesome people are out there!!!!

Hm, not really sure I get your post. Are you implying that by holding roaches at your ramp, you win against bane aggression? Sure you'll be safe against them getting into your main, and you can drone up and pull them from your nat if he gets close, but as I said before the main threat is you now can't attack him. He can take a quick third, semi-saturate it, and still be safe against any roach timing you do by getting slightly slower roaches than you do.
I suggest practicing your control in ZvZs. Find a practice partner and just learn ling/bling properly. Have you got lings + banes on one hotkey? Wrong. Have them on at least 2 separate hotkeys, lings surround, banes attack. Do you clump all your banes together? Wrong. While they're morphing rally them so they're in pairs, and far enough apart so they don't get splashed by other banes. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=273449 - This is what you should be aiming for with your banes.
You don't have to go offensive with ling bling: What I normally do is I open 15 hatch/15 gas/16 pool. Incredibly greedy, but most of the time it doesn't get punished (Mid masters level). You can get bane nest first or speed first, up to you. To be safe what you normally want is one spine, and two safety banes. You have to WATCH those safety banes: don't let him run individual lings in to pick them off. Have them back from the spine, so that the spine will snipe any individual lings. Then you can drone up etc. ^^v. If he's going 14/14 allin (no expand, have an OL floating near his natural if he didn't hatch first), you need to progressively add spines as the game goes on.
Gluck man!

sry just posting quick between games without proof reading
what I'm saying is that for tonight I'm going back to my 15 hatch, 18 gas, 17 roach warren, 6 lings at pool and 1 queen at nat opening vs pool first... which you're right means I can't really attack... so it's horrible against smart players true -
what I do with the roach is make a wall of them extending from the bottom of the ramp, and if agression continues I can add a crawler etc... with the few roaches + queen and few slow lings you really don't need much micro to hold of banes or agression of any kind... farily simply to pull donres out of nat and pull units back to ramp is needed and otherwise I hold fine... obviously my op should just drone like a mofo and keep a eye out for when my speedling finish as I can't really be aggressive until then, but people I'm playing tonight are not good... just better than me hahah
This is only for tonight as I can feel myself off my game and it's not worth trying to focus on the control issues when my control is so below normal today.
On an upnote I've won every non zvz game I've played
so I'm back to about even for the evening, and still need to bring my plus/minus (hockey term) up by +20 ugh

Depends on the circumstances. If OP's family friend is getting him into a job which he is underqualified for/has many other worthy applicants, then yes it's slightly unethical. In the end, it's on the family friend's though, technically OP's not doing anything wrong.
The other more realistic/likely situation though, is that it's completely fine. A large number of jobs actually aren't well advertised/advertised at all, and it's fairly frequent for people to hire friends. That's a large part behind the saying "It's not what you know, it's who you know". Think about it more like, everyone can do the job, it's just no-one knows about it.

no and no?
would it be different if I said friend of a friend? because thats how maybe ..... I wanna say more than half but I'm just tossing out numbers .... of all jobs are filled? someone puts in a good word? you know networking?

I don't think it's unethical to get a job by knowing people. And it's definitely not illegal, otherwise a lot of people would be charged and most likely sued. I'm doing a nursing degree for 5 months and I rung my friends mum up and she said she can get me a job in the hospital she works at, I'm not going to decline such an offer.

Roe, 2 things:
1. Sure your relatives/friends have a vested interest in you. That's why it's important to make sure (from an ethical viewpoint) that they're not giving you jobs which you don't deserve. However, if you're qualified for the job, there is nothing wrong with them giving it to you over a stranger. I understand if you say it's wrong simply because you're their friend, and so they're more inclined to give it to you, and so it's unfair advantage etc. However, looking at it objectively, if they would hire you if they weren't their friend and it was a contest between two complete strangers? Then you're fine.
2. There will always be some innate bias for people to hire their friends. One, because they want to help their friends. Two, if it's between a friend and a stranger, chances are you've had more exposure to the way your friend works, and so have a better idea of their capabilities, and if they'll be a fit for your task.
The world's not perfect: there will always be some bias for people to hire those they know/are close to. In terms of how it influences you? Don't take jobs from friends just because you're friends, don't give jobs to friends just because you're friends. However, also don't refuse jobs from friends if you're qualified, and don't NOT give jobs to friends if objectively speaking they're right for the task.

well yeah, you guys are right. I guess I'm just mad that most jobs out there are taken only because people prefer their friends and family, while I could be more suited towards the job. I guess I just have to "network". Thing is I already hate people in general and don't like having to deal with them. Especially if it's a fakey relationship only built for the prospect of a job. Though I guess there's really no job where you could avoid personal contact :\

Thanks guys...
I don't know what else to say Roe...
W. Bush didn't make it into the whitehouse on his own merits alone...
If it helps, I'm well over qualified for the job, and took it because I needed the cash... as I've been struggling to find work doing that I really want...
so there we go... I respond to learning that giving out and personal info at all on the internet is a bad idea with giving more personal info... oh well.
Maybe I'm not the person to give advice, but you don't have to kiss ass and whore youself to make it, but ya, you really have to be civil and as open minded as possible with as many people as possible... Networking really is the source of sooo many jobs, and there are reasons... when you hire someone you know you can get along with, you know you can get long with them... thats a huge deal... you already know if they fit the culture of the orginization, and likely you already know if they can do the job... It's a far from perfect system, but it's the system.
