I'm bored...I'm not necessarily in a rut with my playing I just want to learn some interesting things to play to freshen my perspective a little.
So the challenge for YOU is:
GIVE ME A SONG TO LEARN ON THE GUITAR!
p.s. I've been playing for about 7 years.. I'm pretty skilled but not amazing but it doesn't have to be anything in particular, just something interesting!
edit: i like almost all kinds of genres and all are appeciated
If you want a piece that's "impossible" to play, I've got one. It's a classical guitar piece, and there only about 2 or 3 guitarists in the world that can play it worth a damn. It's Sonata K. 239 by Scarletti. It's a piece originally written for the harpsichord. Good luck.
If you're not into playing classical guitar and want another "impossible" piece, pretty anything with the master Allan Holdsworth should make you want to put the guitar down. Try proto cosmos! If you're unfamilar with Holdsworth, he's a jazz-fusion guitarist. He's got a VERY VERY VERY unique style and sound. Check him out! For those of you who watch the video to 30 seconds and say "np np I can play this" wait until you get to 45 seconds
If you want something that'll make the girls wet and is still somewhat difficult to play, try "Every Breath You Take" by the police. Alternatively, you can try "message in a bottle," both have kinda difficult stretches in the riffs. ( Message is probably harder )
If you want something that just sounds awesome and is pretty easy to play, check our Ritchie Blackmore's stuff. Deep Purple, Rainbow, you might even want to check out Blackmore's Knight. I'd recommend the song "Burn." Hint: You need to use your thumb to play the notes on the 6th string for the riff
but in reality, i would love if you tried some of the following:
first one is kinda straight forward for a meshuggah song. just playing the basic rhythm is enough of a challenge for me.
second one isn't actually all too weird either. i'm actually thinking about the rhythm that starts at 3:06. by far my favourite meshuggah riff. it's 4/4 and technically super easy. but i still have big problems playing it without the song in the back. so give it a try. listen from 3:00.
let me know if you tried the meshuggah songs and how well you did :D. i can take it if you say "easy"!
how good are you exactly? .. you good at sweeping? practicing some wonderful sweeps is always good.
