Organizing SC2 viewing party for my school

Hey guys! A while ago I attempted to organize a MLG Providence finals viewing party for my friends. Some things went wrong and plans fell apart but this time around, I'm thinking bigger and better.

I want to host an event while renting out the viewing hall in my university. I want to put SC2 on the big screen and be able to hear the sweet voices of casters and our game through surround sound. I want to advertise it to my whole university and get people there and see it in all its glory.

I want to drop some money on this project. I want to create notebooks for each person that attends that some cute intro to starcraft. Maybe before the games start show people a "Intro to Starcraft Video". I want to have food and drinks there and I want to invite the community. I want this to be a bang.

So I want (need) some help.

I was thinking about advertising through flyers posted all around my university (I go to a relatively small University so that shouldn't be a problem) and through simple word of mouth. What should these posters have?

What event should I have this for? (Not MLG Columbus, I'll be there lol) and would the community be interested in coming to something like this?

Do I have a shot? I mean this is my chance to give back and I think it can happen. Breaking that barrier of "Wait, you call this is a sport?" will be the hardest but I think it's possible.

So yeah, what do you guys think? Any tips, any sources I should use/look at?

I think its a great idea! I think the event to do this for would be the NY mlg because its not an open crowd anyways! I dont know if the notebook idea will work out that well but i think talking about the game with the other people is a more informative way and better for socializing and meeting people. As far as the posters go i think that a general sc2 sign with the name of the event and when and where the event will be held. As far as the turnout, that all depends on how much your willing to advertise this, theres a community for sc2 in all towns and cities, its just about getting it out there and letting people know. The only issue i see with this is that you might have a barcraft around your area and that might end up competing so maybe just do some backround info about the area, if there isnt then most definatly advertise the crap out of this. Overall i think this is the great idea! Hope it works out well. The only other question i would have is, do you plan on allowing people outside of the school to attend? If so, you will probably have a great turnout.

Awesome idea, I would recommed some American tournament (so MLG or IPL/NASL), since Dreamhack and GSL's streaming times might not be optimal, but guess you would have to see if thats okay. Maybe you do not even need to create a "Intro to Starcraft" video, I guess you could accomplish this by just starting the game and playing against one of your friends (not a real game, just to show them the races, buildings, units and so on).

Also I would recommend that you bring some people there who can answer people's questions, as I don't think you can answer everything/everyone on your own.

Thanks for the input guys! Yeah I'd be competing with Columbus Barcraft stuff and that would suck. Additionally, I just don't know the level of interest on my campus. I should probably do some preliminary research before this. Maybe have some people over for MLG Arena and use those people as my springboard for NY event.

Does your university have a CSL team? Might want to get in touch with them if it does.

No, we're a super small school and I think I'm literally one of three people that play starcraft and I'm the only one that follows the pro SC2 scene. There is one kid that occasionally watches HD but he keeps telling me the best terran in the world is jinro, so I don't think he knows what he's talking about.
