I find MOBA games to have particularly socially inept people. people LOVE to tell you what to do, where to go, and suicide themselves while typing to you.

Basically any unranked match will be horrible, I recently picked up the game and played maybe ~20 matches or so. To me it seems like the game is basically not worth playing without a) buying a super hero (why the hell did they make 3 levels of heroes) and b) bringing friends who wont act like total doucheknobs

Pretty much why I gave up on playing team games a long time ago.

Although I have trouble focusing and taking things seriously when there are other people on my team in general - I either goof around (with friends), or simply don't care and just mindlessly spam clicks / keyboard (with random people). The only way for me to be competitive is in 1v1 games / modes.

I attract so much hate/rage in LoL when I play (it's actually mostly justified, but it's just a brainless timeburner game for me).

But to be fair, at least in dota, games are usually not over by the 20 minute mark.

I don't play any Moba game without at least 2 other people that I am friends with for this very reason. If we win, yay, and if we lose it was because we did something incredibly stupid for funsies.

For the same reason, I haven't been really able to get into any of the major MOBA titles. Games like LoL, DOTA (1/2) and HoN just seems to have a particular theme in which your team's ability to win a match can pretty much easily be compromised by just one player being less aware/skilled etc compared to the other which leads to ALOT of bad manners. Players just don't want to spend 2-3mins queuing for a game that can be thrown away due to some other random player.

dota is like 10 times much harsh than lol is and ever will be.
you can get way behind at the very start by not able to deny creep/last hit because the lane lineup or partner isn't good.
You can't spam spell as easily as Lol can etc

Dota also doesn't even have any ranking system, you are just hoping the good player is on your team, the game most often would turn to: the team with the good player usually either win straight, or just he carries the whole team while the other team tries their hardest to stop that one player

still, it has its fun, also extremely addictive

LoL is an absolutely terrible game anyways, so I'm not sure why you're playing it in the first place...

At least HoN and DotA had some semblance of skill, though the problems you've pointed out persist across games. It's a genre issue, I think. The problem is that the games are designed such that you need everyone to work together to win fights, and one person can't actually carry a group of idiots who actively ignore you and feed.

Compare that to counterstrike where if you pug'd at least you stood a chance to carry the team by yourself with good shots.

The way I see it, MoBAs are like playing basketball where one kid is standing around picking his nose the whole game. Wouldn't you want to punch that idiot in the face? You can see why it makes people rage so hard now, I hope.

Anyways, I quit HoN (and I was playing at very high level) about 2 months ago and I don't really care to go back. I don't think I'll play DotA2 either. It's just a horribly frustrating experience and not worth my time.

You really can't take LoL pub games seriously. I just use normals for trolling or trying out free champions. If you find a group and only play when your group is on, you'll find LoL a lot more fun, and won't take too much of your time either.

Are moba games even competitive? I always see them one sided, where one small mistake after small mistake just snowballs and then there's no chance of even a slight comeback for the team.
