Hi there. How are you all today?
Anyways, about 6 months ago I read this book:
![[image loading]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51oBytMMZPL._SL500_AA300_.jpg)
The author basically goes around Craigslist looking for stupid ads and trolls the creators. Usually they're asking for unreasonable prices on goods (like free cars) and the like. Others are just services they shouldn't be asking for.
As an example, here's one where a woman is asking for a stranger to driver her kid home from practice.
+ Show Spoiler + Original ad: I am in need of a reliable and SAFE driver to take my 10-year-old daughter home from after-school soccer practice starting in September and ending in late November. She needs to be taken from school in Exton to home in Bryn Mawr. It should take about an hour each day. You will be needed Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. Looking for a safe driver with a clean driving record. E-mail at ***********@comcast.net with references. We can discuss compensation. Thanks!
From Me to ************@comcast.net
Good afternoon.
My name is Mike Partlow and I am very interested in this job. I have a lot of experience driving under dangerous conditions and guarantee your daughter will arrive safely at home every day.
If you are still looking for a dependable driver, please write back.
Sincerely,
Mike Partlow
From Kate ******** to Me
Mr. Partlow (can I call you Mike?),
I still am looking for a driver. Good to know you can handle dangerous conditions...but there probably will not be any dangerous conditions; you are just taking my daughter down Rt 3.
Tell me about yourself - are you a professional driver? Do you have any references from past jobs? What kind of car do you own? Is it reliable?
- Kate
From Me to Kate ********
Kate,
You can call me Mike. I was never one for formalities.
A little about myself, I am 37 years old, and worked as a mercenary driver in the Middle East. I have escorted important clients through high-risk areas in Iraq and Afghanistan for five years. I have seen a lot of action, and have ensured the safety of my clients. Out of all the jobs I have done, 90% of my clients arrived at their destination unharmed.
I have several references. I'll have one of them e-mail you.
My car is very safe and reliable - perfect for your daughter. It is an armored 2007 Chevy Suburban. All glass has been replaced with multi-layered ballistic glass capable of stopping a 7.62 x 39 bullet dead in its tracks. The doors, roof, and floor have been reinforced with ballistic steel/composite that can withstand IED blasts and stop grenade fragmentation. This car has been put to the test and will always deliver.
Safety and protection is my #1 priority. The car is fully loaded with an HK416 assault rifle that fire under the toughest conditions. The roof has a 40mm MK-19 automatic grenade launcher turret installed. Hopefully we won't have to use it, but it is good to have. I can't tell you how many times I've had to return fire against an enemy APC. I assure you that nobody will mess with your daughter as I escort her home from soccer practice.
Now lets discuss pay. I have various security packages I offer, and for your daughter I recommend my medium package which will run you $200 an hour. I also have a minimal package which is only $125 an hour. It is entirely up to you.
Let me know,
Mike Partlow
From Kate ******** to Me
This has to be a joke. This isnt Bagdad, it's suburban PA...
Are you just being sarcastic? What do you really drive? I want to pay 30 bucks a day, tops.
From Me to Kate ********
Kate,
Safety/protection is no joke. For $30, you are likely to get some 17-year-old kid who just got his license and will drive your daughter in his unarmored Ford Focus. I've seen an IED blow a Ford Focus into thousands of pieces, none larger than a golf ball.
My security package is well worth the $200 per trip. We will pick your daughter up in a random Suburban. Four trucks will pull up, and she will get into a random one every day. This is so the enemy does not know which one to attack. The Suburban she is in will have an armed security detail of men I have worked with in Iraq. We know what we are doing. She will be escorted in our convoy down the highway at a high rate of speed to avoid stopping in "kill zones." All vehicles are equipped with an MIRT which is used to change the traffic lights to green so we will not have to slow down. Your daughter will arrive safely in your arms no later than 20 minutes from when she is extracted from the soccer field.
Please reconsider my offer. You can't put a price on your daughter's safety.
From Kate ******** to Me
Stop wasting my time. Don't e-mail me again.
(later, from another e-mail account)
From Nick Walken to Kate **********
Dear Kate,
I am an old client of Mike Partlow. He told me that you wanted a reference for a job you are considering him for. Let me start off by saying, you could not have made a finer choice. Mike is the best there is. He literally saved my life countless times in Iraq. Whatever you are using him for, you have made the right choice. You will be 100% safe.
When I think about my experience Mike, one time stands above the rest. Back in 2005, I was a contractor in Iraq and had hired Mike's security detail to escort me through Fallujah. Everything was going fine until our convoy was hit by an IED. I don't remember much, but next thing you know, I woke up in a Republican Guard prisoner camp with Mike. I thought we were goners. They took me and Mike into a hut, where there were at least eight armed soldiers placing bets. They were going to make Mike and I play Russian Roulette. Mike convinced a soldier to let him play with three bullets, instead of one, which I thought was crazy. Mike even put the gun to his head once and pulled the trigger. He started laughing, and the soldiers started laughing too. When they let their guard down, he immediately shot three of them in the head, grabbed one of their AKs, and gunned down the other five soldiers. I didn't think we would make it out of that one alive, but thanks to Mike's heroic actions, I am here today.
You cannot go wrong with Mike Partlow. He is the best of the best. One time he killed an entire truck of insurgents using just a fork from his salad. He makes do with what he has and will survive the worst of situations.
If you have any more questions about Mike, please don't hesitate to contact me. I owe the man my life.
Nick

what in the hell...
Basically taking their idiocy so far that it makes the OP reconsider their offer or need.
So, I've been trying a few of these myself (Personally the only damage I might have done is gotten some poor guy's tree chopped down.) and I'm wondering, is it worth it to make these posts? Like, it's good intentions, but it involves screwing with people who might just be stupid and wanting to make a quick buck or save some time in the day. Not ALL craigslist posters, just the ones like Kate.
So yeah.

you're a dick. (i voted u a 5 for what it matters) but on the bright side, it makes me laugh. i dont remember the link and too lazy to find it but there is an austrailian guy who trolls people as well. i remember his "spider picture" to a bank.

Happy Holidays! Now stop being mean and pay forward some good holiday cheer. <3

ROFL this is hilarious. personally i would LOVE to see your trolling experiences,

He is the best of the best. One time he killed an entire truck of insurgents using just a fork from his salad. Omg I literally died at this part. but the entire thing was hilarious too, well played sir On a more serious note, as long as you are not scamming people or legitimately harming anyone, these are merely innocent prank emails--I don't see what harm they could really do.

This one is a personal favorite of mine.

I wasn't aware of the book, or when it was published, but I did visit the site a year or two ago and found it absolutely hilarious! I recall extremely funny ones with regard to drugs. Also, I don't know if it was the same guy, but one site like this extensively 'trolls' scam artists, some so far that the guy actually got personal information from these very stupid criminals!
I believe that it is cool to stop stupid people from doing stupid things, like you included in the OP. However, some people are unfortunately dumb, and I don't think you should make their unfortunate circumstance worse, ie. somehow getting someone's tree cut down; perhaps they are really hurting for money and went out of their way to cut it down for firewood for a potential sale.. That's extrapolation though, I don't know the specifics of your circumstance.
If you'd like to be an internet vigilante, why not simply enlighten people as a result of these hilarious exchanges? I still believe that the result can be extremely rewarding in both humor and circumstance.

Flamingo, you are absolutely right, but I think after trying to charge $200 to escort their kid home in an armored convoy, people will be less than happy to listen to an enlightening moral
Although maybe one day I'll try.

This is great. At first when i saw this i was like wow this is not funny its mean. Then i saw how fucking idiotic "Kate" is...these people deserve to be trolled.
|
Funny, but I'm thinking fake. I wasn't sure until I got to the end and read this: "what in the hell..."
Why would anyone respond with that? If you thought they were a creep you wouldn't respond, if you thought they were joking you would call them out on it. The grammar is also too good. No one stupid enough to let some total stranger drive their kid across the city alone would use that good of grammar (including the correct usage of semicolons). The only mistake was the misspelling of Baghdad (which proves errors were left in the copy). Also, Route 3 does not appear to be the most direct path between the two destinations, considering the Interstate seems much more direct. (from what I can tell on Google maps). Writing style between the two seems oddly similar as well.

If it is real, there's nothing dickish about this. Anyone willing to let someone on Craig's List drive their child around (references can be faked) deserves to be trolled. Talk about opening the door for child molesters...
|
These are amazing lol.
Ask for stupid things, you deserve to get trolled :D

I am not understanding why wanting to hire a driver for your daughter makes you stupid. You know people actually do that. Pay people to drive places. That's a real job.
Her reaction seems pretty legit and normal. Maybe not too used to computers if she doesn't realise that he is poking fun and wasting her time, but it seems like she pretty much understood.
If you think being a pest is hilarious (and indeed, when I was a kid I used to think Tom Green was funny), fine, but there's nothing stupid about the person he emailed. There is no need to justify being a twat.

Look at the types of questions she asked. If he'd been with a driving agency before, had a track record, etc. A reference from a previous employer is pretty much all you get (and you will know that it is a real agency because it will exist as a service lol). It's not like you can just get your friend to pretend to be your reference lol. It would be fairly standard to ask for a criminal record check. Yeah, it's not perfect, but you probably aren't staying up at night worrying about the possibility of a teacher suddenly raping your children, and they don't have much more credentials than this. All I need to teach children is a criminal records check. The soccer coach where her daughter needs to be driven to doesn't have more credentials than this.

I don't understand the stress about getting a 'stranger' (who will be thoroughly vetted by the parent) to drive a kid around, it's no riskier than a babysitter which is commonplace.

I feel the need to point out that Jerry Sandusky would meet all of these requirements and more. Child molesters do not walk around with signs on their backs, and many (like Sandusky and countless Catholic priests) are very adept at avoiding getting caught. Anyone who would leave their child alone for long periods of time with a perfect stranger is insane. The world is too full of far too many bad people, and it only takes one to completely ruin your child's life forever.
All I need to teach children is a criminal records check. The soccer coach where her daughter needs to be driven to doesn't have more credentials than this.
Key difference is that the soccer coach is usually never completely alone with a single child. There are other children and usually some parents present at the same time. Though, again, I need to point out that there have been a number of sports coaches who have turned out to be serial child molesters. Here is a good example from my home town. Parents cannot ever be too careful. I reiterate, leaving your child alone for long periods of time with a complete stranger is insane and stupid. Maybe some TL parents can back me up on this?

Ever notice that young females seem to have the market cornered on baby sitting, even though they are almost certainly the least responsible and experienced? How many people do you know would hire a 40 year old man to sit with their children, even if they had done a background check? This is not a situation where reasonable precaution is adequate, this in some cases is literally a life or death situation.
+ Show Spoiler + so in summary.... ah... trolling is... uh... reasonable

hiring strangers to drive your daughter can sounds stupid to some people but that's pretty common in some asian country but the email is funny as hell lol

I love that site (dontevenreply), seriously one of the funniest things I've seen on the internet.
A sorta similar site is 27b/6, he does email trolling too, mostly to people who ask him for things regarding his work (I think he's a graphic designer, can't remember). This is one of my favorites, http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html , I don't know if I have laughed as hard.
If you're interested in trolling, but don't want to hurt the innocent, check out 419eater, here http://www.419eater.com/index.php . I usually check out the letter archive. These people troll the people who do email scams (typically the one where they pretend to be a Nigerian prince and need help moving cash). It's scamming those who pray on the innocent and foolish. Their emails are some of the most elaborate and they troll harder than anything I've seen. This is a good one, http://www.419eater.com/html/bigman.htm . This kind of thing is more indepth if you want to start, more intense, but I think they have guides/tips.

Voted 1/5 - the book and the story quoted feels pretty stupid.
Anyways, what alot of people don't realise is that the majority of child molesters are not strangers but people that the child knows. We don't do background checks on many people who are responsible for the majority of such incidents.
If you are a professional driver, it's definitely possible for reference checks to be done on you.

Yes, there are extraordinary cases where someone after never committing a crime in their life suddenly decides to rape children at age 46, but the chances are much slimmer than a lot of other risks people are willing to take with their children. I find it particularly unlikely that a child would be in danger in this case because how would a child molester conceive of getting away with it? It is on record that at those times he or she is with the child in the car... If something happens to the child in that time, who is going to be blamed? Conceivably the kid could be touched and told not to say anything, but conceivably your own brother or parents who you occasionally have to leave with your kid could do that, or your friend, or the parents of your child's friend.
The only thing I will give you is that it would probably have been better not to state the age of the passenger, so as to avoid people looking for children. If it was that concerning you would probably do better to tell her that (for the sake of her child) than to make fun of her for being a busy parent trying to make things work. I mean, when you actually start putting yourself in the position of parents and the people you think are so stupid, you'll realise the solutions aren't as clear as you'd like. It's very easy to be judgmental, much harder to actually live a life. Would I look for drivers on craig's list? Probably not. I would probably try to get another parent the child is already familiar with and trusts to do it. But that's also the basic story line of every child molestation ever, so what can I say? Ever had a friend's parent drive you back to your house? Ever gone outside? If you have, you probably take more risks than you're aware.

Not leaving your children completely alone with strangers for prolonged periods of time does not equate to "living in a bubble".

meh. This kid often tries way too hard. And no, he doesn't do this to punish stupid people... just for his amusement, because he picks on well reasonable ads. Some of the exchanges are funny of course, but in others the "asshole" just looks like this akward guy who makes a bad joke and then laughs hysterically about it.

So, you've never noticed a pattern in that child molesters are almost always middle aged white men? Just so you know, that is a very tedious way to argue and has already led to misunderstanding by false separations of my premises. You are basically asking me to clarify every single point I've made, so that you can then respond to every clarification and we can argue endlessly writing 5000 word posts a piece and never getting anywhere because now one main argument has been divided into five sub arguments, and will be divided further still as they are brought into more detail. Whether I am right or wrong, it's not worth the time to argue like this. I would ordinarily just ignore the post and view it as the end of reason, but for your benefit I want to reveal to you that there is in fact a better way to argue (and basically it involves trying to understand how someone's points work together, rather than simplifying them, since they were in fact presented, together, with a single goal).
You probably shouldn't try to guess what I mean, either. To assume makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me." Because it's a bad idea? Or because getting trolled by morons on the internet is tedious? Or perhaps something else? Possibly financially motivated? Maybe it's just a more familiar approach? Who knowwssss... You won't.

Sometimes you see things that don't jive with your character values and you slip a line like "What a moron!" or "That's stupid"! I dislike trolling because that's just plain immaturity, especially conducted by an adult with all senses (should be) developed. I sincerely doubted he started it in the beginning with the purpose of making money though. Maybe he realized that some time afterward, with the amount of fans and viewership that he has gained, that he could make a buck or 2 out of it.
