Disable the casino because it just breaks the game. Overall, it adds a nice twist to Monopoly and caters to bigger groups of people (not 3 or 4). So the game lasts longer and is a lot more fun.

Another great standby is El Grande, which is difficult to describe but is very strategic (link). Torte: How is "it's like Monopoly but takes longer" a recommendation for a good game? :-P

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=238248 and I know there are a few more board game threads out there. Recently I have been playing citadels, 7 wonders, and cities and knights(settlers expansion), and given the games you listed I think you would like any of these.

After the 10th hour we had a round of combat. Then the one guy who actually knew the rules pulled a near game ending trick, but then another player who by this point was very drunk decided to bend over and take it up the arse of another player so the game would end by the 11th-12th hour. Ugh....

I've only recently started playing/watching (usually watching) board games with a friend who's been into it for years, and, among his friends, BSG gets mentioned a lot. Even though they've got a fairly large group of people that play all kinds of different games, everyone that I've asked for a favorite has at least mentioned either Catan or BSG, sometimes both. Unfortunately, though, I've managed to be busy every time they've gotten people together to play Battlestar...so I can't actually say why they like it so much. Also can't comment on how long it takes, but from what I've heard it takes at least a little while to get rolling, even for people who play it often. I had fun with Last Night on Earth, the first game I played with them...after I got over feeling embarrassed at playing a board game about zombies, at least. I think we had four or five (2 sharing control of the zombies, others cooperating as humans), and I liked that the "win" conditions forced conflict between the teams without actually feeling all that forced. The rules were simple enough for everyone to understand within a turn or two, and the game is fast enough to play at least a couple games within the span of two hours. A couple weeks later we played A Touch of Evil, another game from the same company, but I didn't think it was as good, and wouldn't recommend it. Haven't heard of Steam or Power Grid, though, sorry. Also, I lol'd irl at suggesting Axis & Allies or "like Monopoly but it takes longer" for "games lasting less than 2 hours."

The problem is is that Triopoly has this casino corner where you can bet any amount of cash and if you roll luck, get like 10x back or something, which is bullshit and extends the game too long.

Basically it works like this. 4-6 people (always 6 when we played) are humans trying to work together to stop cylon attacks, conserve resources and manage crises. Except one of them who is a Cylon who is secretly trying to undermine everyone. But no one knows who that is! Halfway through the game another round of loyalty cards gets issued so it's possible that another player can become a Cylon. The whole game is a mixture of trying to keep everything running, trying to discover who around the table is the Cylon (or trying not to get discovered if it's you) and finding the right balance between suspicion and cooperation with the other table folk. The game remains a good tension for the 2-3 hours of play. It might feel a bit boring at the start because the humans are dealing with crises mostly easily and they haven't started to run low on resources, and WHO IS THE BLOODY CYLON ANYWAY? When that starts to happen the game gets REALLY good.
