No respectable martial arts school will let you spar with beginners, ever. If you really insist, though, they might let you spar with intermediate students. And those will kick your ass

There is also a worldwide club called the brotherhood of the dog, where people just kick the crap out of each other, sometimes using sticks and other melee weapons. Maybe that could be something for you.

P.s. I think training MMA in your shoes is an excellent idea btw. Nothing calms a man down as thoroughly as reaching the outer limits of exhaustion and going just a little bit past them every week. Sparring with a decent fighter, going balls to the wall and getting thrashed is also a very humbling and character building experience I'd say. Go for it!

Have you considered knitting? Every time I get mad I knit for 20 minutes or so, it makes you focus on something else and if you get mad enough times you get a nice sweater out of it.

Start with running and stretching. If you are still angry, maybe some counseling.

I've only been in one fist fight in my life, and I won (in 2nd grade), and I am way less physically strong compared to most other men, so I want to keep my 100% win ratio. This means avoiding fights for me.3

I used to have a friend who, in college, used to get in fights at parties (he was some sort of black belt). One night he was beaten to death by another guy I knew (yeah, fucked up). That kind of put things in perspective for me.
Make more anything.

haha thanks everyone for the replies! i like how quickly it became an anger management thread xD Maybe I phrased it the wrong way in the OP: I'm not an angry savage wanting to beat the living shit out of someone; I want to experience and get better at fighting in a controlled environment. I feel like the contact aspect will help me relieve any built up stress more directly, but I don't necessarily want to relieve my anger by beating someone up. Thanks for the anger management tips, though; I do try my best to keep my temper in check by doing things like working out, watching movies or snowboarding. I also receive professional counseling once a week.

try a beginners class* , google in your area for clubs , or check local gyms coz they might have classes held there

i wanna do this too but i figure i will get wrecked (and injured lol) so im holding off until i have some basic strength and fitness from gym :/

*probably everyone in a "normal" class could lift you up with one hand (unless you are already trained

I duno what US MMA gyms look like, but there's plenty of people who do MMA just for fun in Sweden... Not everyone looks like a heavyweight champion.

Honestly any good MMA gym is not going to let you spar without knowing you can control yourself. Like MrBitter and emporer said if you tried to spar hard at a beginner level they would put you with someone experienced. Also when you say MMA thats an ambiguous word, that could include wrestling (greco or olympic) BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing etc... From my experience (8 years of martial arts including TKD :p) I would recommend going somewhere and learn these martial arts separately then when you get to a proficient level with each meld them together.

There's nothing ambiguous about the word MMA in todays day and age... And there's really very little reason to not just sign up for an MMA gym if there's a decent one available.

But yeah, if you're going to angrily sparr you'd have to consider whether that would actually be a comfortable experience for whomever you're sparring with... It can be competitive but shouldnt be angry.

There have been guys who come to the gym and think their badass, right? like a couple of guys had been in the military, and rolled too hard on the mat, or striked too hard during warm-ups. They got paired up with the more... experienced guys in the class who decided to not take it easy on them. They either learned their lesson or never showed up again.

You don't go into the gym to hurt people. haha If you do, it happens the other way around That's how they keep it a safe environment.

Happy sparring! And know that the more skilled guys want you to learn safely.

I'm pretty surprised that no one has yet suggested sparring with friends. You really don't need to go to any gym. Just find some willing friends and get some boxing gloves.
I get it.
