American football is a development from rugby football, which was also often referred to as football, and so the name stuck.
Re:Football v Handegg v Soccer, I think mdb had the right say: It's a different language. And while futbol (to distinguish the two ) may be more popular in most of the world, Football is more popular in the US - so, inside the US, why should it matter that we call it Football? A logical approach. But when you are addressing a resident of the rest of the world about this topic how would you refer to it? You can call it however you like across the sea, but when speaking with us you shall call soccer football. Oh and btw our players are much more handsome and get better dates. Your players look like oversized gorillas while Pique dates Shakira. Dat ass! Are you seriously going to make the statement that football players don't date/ marry hot girls? Not only is that ignorant (http://www.athleteswives.com/rankings/hottest-football-nfl-wives-girlfriends/), but that goes against the stereotype for football players (not soccer players, rofl), and it's also just causing more random problems. That's just plain stupid. That's like someone defending American football over soccer by saying, "Our players could collectively punch a hole through your players, so we're a better sport than you." What the heck? I challenge you to post some handsome eggballers and their hot wives. Way to not read my post. I already presented a website. It includes frickin supermodels. Try again please.
From the same site you provided me. What a keeper dude. Dat elegance. Feel free to take a look here.http://girls.gunaxin.com/top-100-footballers-wives-and-girlfriends/16979 We got Shakira, Ilari Blassi and ofc the cutest woman on earth Cheryl Cole! Is that all you got?

Things can be egg-shaped (which only means it has the same shape as an egg), but please find me a geometry book that uses the word Egg as a proper figure. Ball isn't a shape either, for that matter, for the same reason. That's like saying that a Table is a shape because I might be able to find something table-shaped -.-' As it is, a football (the object) is a ball, by definition. It is the shape of a ball (round or ovoid), and so the object that best defines a football is a ball, not an egg. An egg has multiple definitions, none of which properly relates to the game of football. And guess what? The makers of the football didn't feel like calling it a handball, because then it would probably get confused with a fucking handball. In America, you play baseball with a baseball, basketball with a basketball, soccer with a soccer [ball], and football with a football. Et cetera. Do as you please elsewhere, but seriously, all this grief about a sport being called something else in a different country is totally unwarranted. The only way that football can have anything to do with eggs is if there's a game on in the background while you're egging on a soon-to-be mother hen and lizard while eating scrambled eggs.

'''In technical drawing, an oval (from Latin ovum, 'egg') is a figure constructed from two pairs of arcs, with two different radii (see image on the right). The arcs are joined at a point, in which lines tangential to both joining arcs lie on the same line, thus making the joint smooth. Any point of an oval belongs to an arc with a constant radius (shorter or longer), whereas in an ellipse the radius is continuously changing.'' You got any real arguments?

this was a very funny blog and there is no need for USA bashing when we have so many things we can bash them for (kyoto, wars, more wars, did i mention yet another war?, what was the name of the last war? and the one after that?, polution, guns, bush+wars, bus+elections, lady gaga, macdonals, kfc, etc..) why would we bash them for their poor choice in sports names? I think it's ok the americans call their eggball/handegg game football and call our football soccer, but you have got to admit this blog is funny

Giselle Bundchen. Bam!!! America wins. Argument over. Juliette wrote I would watch handegg, lol. But is called soccer in EU too. Messi too good (but handegg mvp would be brees) In an effort to derail this thread further handegg MVP has to be Manning. And I'm talking about Peyton not Eli (yes even after last night's victory Peyton still should be the MVP).
