I know many people are probably expecting this to be somewhat of a rant/rage blog, but it's quite the opposite. I've done 3 of my 5 final exams so far for the semester, just finishing my 3rd exam 10ish minutes ago. I studied probably about 2-3 hours for each of them so far, so I was expecting maybe a B-/B, but I've been pleasantly surprised.
First exam: Computer components & peripherals - 83% (second highest mark in the class!)
Second exam: Voice & data structured cabling - 84% (I'm thinking top 3 in this one)
Third exam: Routing & switching III - 80% (only 6 of us in this class, and based on the midterm marks I'm thinking top 2)
Since 80-89% is an A at my college, that means I've gotten 3 A's so far, so I'm really happy at the moment ^.^. The exam I figure is the easiest is next, and then the one that I thought was going to be in the middle is the last one, so I've got a chance for straight A's on finals this semester.
After exams I'm also going on "vacation" to my dad and step-mom's with my brother, where all we will do is go to the pub and drink and such together; super excited! I've also got my easiest, and last, semester coming up next month, then I graduate too. I've got a job already lined up that I'm really stoked for, where I get to work with my friend.
Not trying to brag exactly, but I felt to need to share my happiness. Happy holidays!

Happy holidays to you too! Finals suck, especially when you have a final project/paper on top of the exam.
Last Wed/Thurs was way to crazy for me. Paper assigned monday and due thursday (7pg research on how to solve the Palestinian conflict). Wednesday I had to give an hour and a half lecture on libyan politics past and present, Final on that class (which is the only grade) on thursday, had to write an applet for my CS class (assigned monday) for thursday, and a terrible clac 2 exam on Wednesday.
My finals week will be easy compared to all that.

Just curious, what does a 90-100 count for at your school then? :o

Dont know how it goes in Canada, but having 80+ is already very high enough and thus high enough for an 'A' as you call it. Having 90+ is usually pretty damn rare and is still just an A. The ABCDEF counting system is just a bit of a weird system as its kinda hard to compare it to a normal 1-10 or 1-100% system.

i think i failed mine yesterday... let's hope it gets better >_<

90-100 is A+

GJ!
When do your exams start? Our's are from Dec 8th- 22nd, personally my first was on the 8th and my last is on the 21st lol
|
Going by those names, the exams dont sound hard, just sayin My exams are all in february-march so still far ahead, i should probably start learning, but + Show Spoiler + :|
|
I actually studied for -2 hours for all my exams, meaning i spent 2 hours forgetting as much as possible and still got A's But really I always glad to hear about other people succeeding in school, I just finished my last exam yesterday and I've been crushingggggg them, so satisfying
|
i studi over 20 hours on each my exams. at my college its 90 to get A though. weird
|
|
One of my friends convinced his roommate to play lol with us instead of studing for his math final and he did very bad lolo. Do i feel bad?? Hell no we won the dam games bro : )

It's always a great feeling to do well on final exams. I wasn't doing too great in my first quarter Organic Chemistry class (was getting a B), studied my ass off and aced the final and ended up with an A in the class. I was so happy. Congratulations man, I know how you feel!
|
Good job and good luck for the last two exams! Happy holidays!
|
Nice job! Canada sure has a weird grading system. An A+ in college city is basically just getting a perfect score or more than perfect score lol.

Wow. 20% for As. Wish we had that luxury here in America x.x
Anyways, congratulations on kicking ass on your exams! Keep up the good work!

I'm pretty sure that the vast vast majority of people would be absolutely ecstatic with a B in org.

Great brag blog Still waiting for finals week to commence for us... The anxiety!

Finals start next week, have 4 to look forward to.

I hope the happiness is as contagious as they say. Wouldn't mind my exams being marked as well at all.

I mean, I've had As in France with 12/20, and I remember an undergrad "exam" where the average grade was something ridiculous like 6/45, so the best mark was something like 13... I can tell you the guy was pretty good at physics^^

Haven't had my final exams yet, but I've been studying (almost) nonstop for 2 weeks now (next week shit's going down) so I hope I don't fail
|
Only 1/6 done here; finishing on the 18th.
I didn't get my grade yet but easy exam for the first one; definitely getting an A in that class (or A+ if the teacher feels like giving me an extra point or two). It was some second year chemistry lab, easy stuff. Also going to be getting A+ or A in my biochemistry lab which is a bit more advanced (4th year class) unless I do terrible on the last exam.
I'm a bit disappointed in my results this semester in other classes. Going to be getting B or B+ in Physical chemistry (assuming I don't botch the final exam) which is pretty sad. Similar result in Analytical chemistry. Probably going to be getting A- in my metabolism class (it's easy as hell but so boring that I studied like 3-4 hours per exam and even then I had to force myself to study it... it's just basic metabolism which everyone has already learned in other classes before). Really should be getting an A or A+ in that class.
Rant about how much I hate my programming class in here : + Show Spoiler + But the real terrible class is my programming class. I had to take some random class from a list (10 credits to do in extra stuff) and this, out of like 60 choices, was the only class that fit in my schedule. In 7 years at university, he is the worst teacher I've ever had. No class notes, barely any explanations, extremely hard homework that's worth 15% of our grade. We even have a practice lab class each week but instead of using it to help us practice, he just talks the entire time and makes us copy some random shit he does. Fucking ridiculous.
At this point, I'm just hoping to pass the class. The final exam is worth 50% and I need to do around 55% on it to pass I think. Hard to know because he doesn't give us our fucking grades on anything. All our homework, he just give it back with no grades. Went to see him for my grades, got like 90% on each of them (had help over skype from my brother who's a programmer) and he couldn't even tell me where I lost points because he just randomly assigns a grade to people pretty much. I really really hope I pass.
Last homework we didn't get our grade at all. There were 2 other exams, didn't get the grade for the second one yet either (did 75 on the first one, which I admit is terrible because it wasn't even hard; could've done 100% on that on a better day without studying more). I think I did a similar grade on the second one. It was basically giving us code on a computer, telling us to find 3 errors in it (27 pts per problem x3, so I assume 9 pts per error). I found 3 errors on 1 problem and 2 on the others (well, 3 but I couldn't fix 1 on each other problem so I just pointed out that I didn't know how to fix them at least). A 4th problem was writing our own code which was easy at least. On the other hand, it sounds ridiculous to me for him to give the same point for each error because some were a missing , or ; which the computer points out anyway... but I sure hope he does.
The only thing I can say is that he's at least generous with points and the exams so far haven't been too hard compared to homework. Still, he's just doing that to make up for being awful at teaching.
Overall, that fucking programming class is going to drop my average by about 2 points by itself. Really wish I never had to take that fucking class.

At my university scales vary between classes. I had a class where the A+ was 98, and it was fairly easy to achieve, but others where A+ was 90 and it was very tough to get.
The passing grade varies from 55 to 60 as well in some classes.

3 classes on routing? how are you still alive? wtf.

I got my last Exam on Monday, it's History and it's gonna be freaking hard, doing way worse than last year. Here in Germany we need 87+% For an A (13-15 Points) and I haven't got all my results yet . Great you are doing so good on your finals.

You crazy Australians and your grading systems. 6.00? I wouldn't mind that, considering 4.3 = A+ here

Wish we had that luxury here in America x.x Anyways, congratulations on kicking ass on your exams! Keep up the good work! You guys realise that exactly the same percentage of students earn A's right? :p In South Africa, A is 75+ with 70-74 being A-. Our exams tend to be harder so getting 90% is pretty much unheard of, and there's no mark adjustment either. For example, in South Africa, the top 10% of students in any course can continue studying for an additional year to complete an "honours" degree. In my class of 75 honours students (at one of the top universities), the highest overall mark was 84.5% with the class average at around 60-65%.
Point is, the system is designed so that the same percentage of students get As and Bs for all systems. Perhaps the only advantage of having a system where 75% is an A is that there is less of a "ceiling effect" so you can stand out from other students with A's by getting high 80s or 90s.

yeah same, I wonder if their stuff is really hard and thus needed to be adjusted or they wanted to pussy it up and make it so anyone can get an A.

It probably is... Still wish my school used that system though.

Hey grats man. I always hate waiting to see grades on finals, but now that I graduated it's always great to see people doing so well (I didn't do so well. I blame my degree, EE =P)
I don't know if you've done the other two yet, but good luck!

It's not really hard overall to be honest. There's just a lot of relatively stupid and lazy people in university and they want to keep them. If you fail everyone that doesn't work hard, you'll only have a few students in each classes.
Thank god too, cause I'm lazy (not that stupid though!).

Grats, and good luck on the rest of your exams!
I finished my last exam Friday morning. Class average ended up being ~34%, 3rd Q at ~39-40% and some genius at 76% for the top score. Lowest was a 6%. Fun times. Everyone was super-worried afterwards. (So was I but I just went back to my room and slept, because 8 AM finals suck. Then I just didn't think about it until he mailed our grades out.) :D

I'm used to the IB/A level system of 70%+ being an A. Now studying in the US, where 94%+ is an A, is worrying. Fortunately, they hand out grades like candy here.
I don't like the system here, because it doesn't reward people for doing better than what's considered 'A' work, or recognize differences of quality past that point.
