Hello all!
My name is Grace Tveit, and I'm a bronze SCII player on the NA server. My goal with SCII is to become the best I can be (I know, original, right?) and hopefully play pro. I recognize the huge amount of work a head of me. For one, I don't have any real previous RTS or Pro-Gamer experience. I also don't have the best of machines to play it on. Right now I'm limited to a Lenovo Laptop, and while it can play StarCraft II, it lags quite a bit when there are a lot of units in the game. Oh well
Also, don't expect any great composition or essays or whatever. For now, the main purpose of this blog is to rant/talk about things semi-relevant to this site. You don't have to read, and I'd appreciate it if any criticism is aimed at my play, not my grammar, thank you very much.
I'm playing as Zerg right now (and for the forseable future), and as of this blogpost, I'm rank 5 bronze in my division. My current goal is to promote into silver by the end of this season.According to Blizzard, the best way to achieve this goal right now is to earn 1200 points by the 13th of this month. And as of this month, I have 759 points. From where I stand, I'm going to have to win a whole lot of games in about 10 days. I set out a goal for each day since 11/28 that would have me on a smooth ramp up to silver. For today, I should have 891 points or above to "be on track".
There's still some hours in the day left, but I'm conflicted as to whether or not I should ladder. I already tried to play in 2 tourneys today, and got knocked out of both in the 1st round, so my self-esteem isn't doing so well.
And yes, I know that laddering, points, and all that jazz is not an accurate way to measure progress and skill. However, it's a very concrete, measurable goal. A goal that helps me realize my larger goal of going pro.
Today's little journal is going to be just a basic introductions, so I'm not going to really get into specifics at this point! More later though!
Please leave any comments or questions (or encouragements >u>) that you see fit, keeping in mind all those good common courtesies and such. If you want to see any replays, do say, and I'll see to posting those.

I wish you the best of luck in your journey towards improvement, but drop the whole "hopefully play pro" business. Unless by "play pro" you mean "play good".

Okay, good luck with that, but I won't be the only person who's gonna tell you it's not gonna happen!

One piece of advice I have is to remember to play for fun (at least some of the time). Practicing really seriously will help you improve but it can drain your drive to play. Just remember to keep both in balance and the whole journey should be a lot more enjoyable

I don't see why you guys gotta hack at this guy's goals. GL bud! :D You do have 759 points, but your bonus pool counts toward your skill level as represented in points as well. So with regard to your goal, you can think of it as 976 points. EDIT: and actually, there are what, 12 days left until the 13th? Add the number of bonus pool points you'll accrue until that day into your count as well. It's like 2 per hour.

I've recently came to the same point you have and after reading your post felt like we have the same very unoriginal goals . I was wondering if maybe you would want to practice together? Anyway good luck on reaching your goal.

These blogs are like huge fads...which is not a bad thing necessarily. What is troubling is that no one really seems to understand the implications of "going pro". Seriously, it's an amazingly huge enterprise that may not even yield successful results that requires HUGE amounts of dedication of a scope you probably don't understand given your lack of high-level RTS experience.
Also realize that distinctions of bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and even diamond really don't matter. The importance is not winning games, but learning the intricacies of SC2 to help you in the long-run.
A few questions to ask yourself: Are you ok with losing 50 games in a row for the sake of improvement? (Judging from you losing just two games, my answer here for you would be no. You need to have the correct mindset for SC2, that is, being ok with losing constantly and being the worst critic of your own play)
Have you optimized your practice? Do you know what builds you plan on practicing, your macro hotkeys?
Do you feel complacent if you win 5+ in a row? When you win like this, do you still scrutinize your replays and tell yourself "aw man, that was terrible...I need to fix 50000 things."
Do you even know what to fix?

like 6d.leek said, you have to build up that confidence and self-esteem if you ever wanna improve. you can't let 2 losses get you down. being a bronze player working towards masters or grandmasters level, you are going to lose THOUSANDS of games. MULTIPLE THOUSANDS even. which is okay, and is in fact necessary to ever get you to improve.
don't get down on those 2 losses. review each and every loss and see what you could have done better. make a note of it for your next game. if you made the same mistake even after you were aware of it, think about it even harder in the next game until you are at least actively trying to fix that issue. do this for every aspect of your play, which includes macro, micro, scouting, watching your minimap, army positioning, timing, and everything else in between.
i wish you luck on your journey. let your haters be your motivators!
