-_- Creaky soapbox.
remove the male demographics info and the ads should stop. They bothered me too.

I always get these grocery savings and credit card ads. Currently I have a President's Choice FREE FOOD FAST get $40 worth of free food with a PC Financial Master Card.
Even internet ads mock me for being a broke ass student.

I get this kind of ads on my parent's computer and i only use it for TL / Mails / Academic material / newspapers. Oh and no my parents don't browse this kind of stuff ( basicly Mails + newspapers too )
Another reason why i got NoScript on my main lol.
edit: tons of Flash games ads too. A bit less embarrassing tho. I also get Shop ads if i'm browsing something like Amazon etc...

So yeah I'm pretty sure this is a joke and whatnot, but then again perhaps I am wrong...maybe.

Apparently TL thinks I'm rich because I'm getting advertisements for Luxury suites and jewelry shops.

Even so, you ought to discuss blocking certain types of ads yourselves. A newspaper or TV channel using adsense will block "inappropriate" ads from displaying on their websites because it might cause damage to their brand and image. The argument of ads being tailored to the individual users' browsing habits is irrelevant. A majority of people will not realize that fact, and even if they do, they don't like being reminded that google adsense thinks they're losers, singles, and based on their broswing history likely to shop for russian mail order brides.
In the end it's TL's choice. Their stance right now seems to be that their users are or should be tech savvy enough to sort it out themselves. I however think that for most users the easier option will be going back to blocking ads as opposed to learning about adsense.

I don't see how the ads are bothersome. I don't even look at them. The only ads that bother me are the ones on other websites that pop up and cover the entire screen and have a tiny hidden button you have to press to close it.

I somewhat agree with Lalush, but then again if TL decides to block certain googleads it will probably eat a lot of the ad revenue?
And it isn't just a browsing habit thing, I'm fairly certain about that.
e. And like I said I don't like to use cookies or things like that. To block certain google ads would force me to allow cookies to remove obnoxious ads on TL... It's not that much of a problem to me but I certainly can relate to those who have problem with it.

I get Korean love line and Tony Robbins coaching
strange because I never look up Korean girls or coaching

That is fine, and it is another topic altogether. But to make statements that say we are choosing these ads for visitors, and that we are making a statement about visitors, is way way off base.

Yea, apparently the 18-24 Male demographic results in a whole bunch of "inappropriate" ads in google ad sense. I mean they got the demographic right, but I really don't need to see these kinds of ads on TL. Even though it's true that TL didn't choose those ads, I think 95% of people out there won't know this and think exactly like the OP.
|
lol I think the OP made quite a fool of himself. I thought it was common knowledge by now that google adjusts ads based upon your browsing history, and perhaps the text in the page you are currently viewing?
I haven't seen a single ad like you describe. Then again, I like to use a different browser with auto-history wiping for my porn searching.
Before you leap to attacking people, stop and think about things, or ask questions first. Try asking "why am I seeing ads like X on TL?" Then someone can help you out before you jump to conclusions. Lesson learned, hopefully.
BTW: I gave you 5 stars because this blog did succeed at entertaining me.

Lol at OP for admitting he watches so much porn that Adsense has those kind of adverts. Also, if you're trying not to be the "stereotypical gamer" get a different ID...
|
I get really random ones, shit tons related to finance(GET THIS STOCK APP HERE/TRADE WITH THIS COMPANY), and a few dating ones.
The finance ones make no sense, the last time I expressed an interest in the stock market was NEVER, and I some how don't think the 18-24 market are the right demographic.
I find it funny more than anything else.
I do get adds for EVE though, which is great, since I play it, I make sure to click on those so that TL gets its Ad money.
|
Meanwhile I get election and business card ads. How boring
|
I just got one for nadiza pobdela ( which after googling is a park in Slovenia)
......
actually I've never gotten anything that random

Well, that pretty much indicates that all these people in this thread calling the OP a sanctimonious hypocrite incorrect. Sure, the OP's anger is misdirected, but all it proves is that he's 18-24 and male. For example, I get a mix of Korean singles ads and some tech ads. I'll admit that I surf for porn a few times a month, but that constitutes perhaps 0.1% of what I search for - almost everything else is academic or gaming related. I guess that reinforces Google stereotyping: 18-24, male, and only checks nerdy/geeky websites? More sexual ads for you!!!
Here are my ads preferences:
Arts & Entertainment - Movies
Arts & Entertainment - TV & Video
Books & Literature
Computers & Electronics
Games
Games - Computer & Video Games
Games - Computer & Video Games - Strategy Games
Games - Roleplaying Games
Intellectual Property
Legal Education
Reference - General Reference - Dictionaries & Encyclopedias
Science - Ecology & Environment
Sports
Sports - Team Sports - Basketball
Demographics - Age - 18-24
Demographics - Gender - Male
So apparently, from these, it infers that I like Korean women? I mean, I do, but it makes no sense. In addition, I've never seen the other sexualized ads, just Korean singles. I guess searching for BW (strategy games) has a strong correlation with Korean romantic interests?

This. I have almost the same settings, yet i experience what OP does aswell. Good job by everyone jumping the "you watch porn"-bandwagon though.
