Hello fellow TLers.
Today is Veterans day in the US, which means I have the day off. (Thanks Dad and Grandpas!) I've been in Bronze league ever since I started playing SCII and I'm tired of it. Since I have no other plans for the day, I will spend my time in a marathon session on the ladder with the goal of getting out of bronze league. Last season I finished in the top 8 so this is not out of reach for me.
If you, also, have nothing else to do and would like to school me in some SCII strats, please look me up and play a game or two with me. Zaranth 983.
Thanks everyone! Keep being awesome!
Edit: I am protoss. Thanks for everyone offering to help me together we can do it! :-)
Zaranth out.
Update: After a morning of play and help from kind community members, I have moved from 29th to 16th! Taking a lunch break, then back at it all afternoon. Cheers!
Update: At 4 pm, I am now level 13. I've been stuck here most of the afternoon - neither advancing nor declining. I only have a little bit of time now to reach my goal, and I'm not sure I will make it. However, it's been a fun day no matter what and I know I've improved thanks to your help. I'll let you know my final position at the end of my laddering.
Update: By 4:45 I got up to 11, and then I had to call it a day. I had a great time on the ladder. I will keep trying to play more frequently and get into silver soon - hopefully before MLG!

Out of curiosity, how long have you had sc2 / what's your av. games per week?

Don't worry I'm not. :-) 3gate robo is what I am currently doing.

I've been playing since June this year and I probably average 10 games a week when I play. Sadly there are weeks that I just don't (usually those are weeks when I am reading a good book). However I would like to start entering some tournaments and things as motivation.

Good luck,
Constantly make probes and plyons and you will find that you cant spend the money you earn. At bonze don’t worry about trying to counter what they have. Just get a lot of units at A-move to the win!
|
» Keep building probes and expanding when save.
» Got too much minerals? Get more gateways. Spend it all! If you have 1500 minerals, just get units and the rest spend it on production, 7/8/9 gates. Like you're shopping in a huge discount shop and you have to spend all your money or you won't get anything.
» Dont care too much about strategy or creative play. Macro well and you'll get up to gold/plat. Also if you dont rely on 4gate (like 95% of low league toss?) you will be able to get better macro and go beyond gold/plat in time which the typical 4gaters won't.
Good luck have fun!

I don't think it's wrong if you go for 4gate every match up. At your level the most important thing is macro, if you manage to get those ~22 probes fast enougth and never forget to produce units of your gateways it's already a good start. Any decent build is ok, just stick to the build and try to master it.
A lot of top P players started with only 4gate (naniwa and elfi are the ones that comes to mind) and had great success with it. Being able to perfectly execute the 4gate is a must have tool for every protoss i feel.

But being in Bronze is so cool, we have cookies

Yeah, 4 gating is good. Just practicing saturating one base and constantly producing units is enough to get yourself out of the bronze league. Once you have that down, try building only 3 gates and then expand while continuing to produce probes. Then try adding on a robo and getting some higher tech units later.
Telling a bronze leaguer to do the "right" strategy is pretty bad advice, IMO. Most of the higher level strategies rely on good mechanics and game knowledge, something far out of the reach of bronze players. Like if you told a bronze terran to go marine/tank against zerg, he'd just get crushed by a-move zergling baneling because he doesn't have the mechanics to micro, drop, push, and keep up with production.

OK guys, let's not bring up the whole "Macro better" argument there are other places to discuss.
Thanks for the tips. I have been trying to focus on building lots of gates and spending my money. I'm doing pretty well so far today! Moving up the ladder. I will keep you posted. :-)

I'm helping her with her quest to reach silver. First, I asked her what type of player she wanted to be. I don't want her trying to do long macro games if she dislikes that and I don't want her 4-gating if she dislikes being very aggressive early. After a quick practice game and some questions I think she wants to be a generally passive macro player.
She's doing better making lots of workers and trying to spend all her money. That is her main focus. Her basic, super general, plan in every matchup is to get lots of gateways, several observers scattered about, and then harass lots of places with zealots. Just make a bunch, attack move locations via the minimap and forget about them. While doing that she'll make her giant army of zealots, stalkers, immortals and Void Rays and whatever else she feels like making. She will be expanding as well. Then, when she feels the time is right she'll attack. So far I think she's 4-3? 4-2? 3-2? or so. She's had some problems with early pools.
She and I practiced some early pool things and getting it down to handle it like a pro would take more practice than it is worth. So, for now, she's throwing down an extra early pylon to finish her wall then cancelling it... just to be super safe. She'll spot some zerg opponents a lead but have an easier, and more sane, time dealing with early pools. She is following up her cancelled pylon with 4 chrono'd zealots from 1 gateway. Then playing standard. I do the 4 chronod zealots from 1 gate in diamond and it works surprisingly well even then. I thinks he'll have a more enjoyable time being a little more safe against Zerg and working to catchup against them because she'd better at spending money.
