I'd say it tastes different than the original. Slightly more healthy and cleaner? Its got no MSG. But for some reason the original is more spicy. I always figured a black package implied something was spicy as hell.

From what I read and labeling on the packagings, it's suppose to taste closer to Seol-nong-tang.

I loved stirring the egg when it's cooking so it flavors the broth much more, though some people (like you) keep the egg whole.
Idk if it's common in Korea but a lot of people put a slice of cheese on top too.

PS- I thought this thread was going to be about a defect pack of ramen with black noodles or something. Since one time I opened a pack and I saw a few threads of noodles that were dark brown and black (because they had been burned I assume.)

Now I saw this blog and my lust is once again awaken.
Some questions:
1) Can I use the water I boil the pork(with seasoning n stuff) with as my soup? Or do I need to prepare the soup separately? FYI I like the pork/chicken taste in my soup.
2) What veggie ingredients can I add? Can I add mushrooms of any form? I really like them, <3.
3) Can I use another type of pasta instead of these insta-ramen packages? Their quality seems kinda dubious?
4) How can I season the egg?

Shin Ramen Black is terrible, just like all the other kinds of Shin Ramen are. Their noodles and soup taste really bad, but they win at overpricing their ramen.

You can use the water you boil the pork with as the soup, especially if you like the flavor.
You can add carrots, green onions, onions - basically whatever you want to add. Mushrooms I'm not so sure about, because I don't know how safe it is to eat them raw or undercooked. Basically, can you boil mushrooms? I think they would be more flavorful if you sautee'd them, but I think you can also just add dehydrated mushrooms to the ramen. Ooooh, and try seaweed! Seaweed and bamboo shoots. MMMmmmmmm....
The insta-ramen packages are delicious! But yes, you can use your own noodles. I sometimes substitute rice noodles, glass noodles, or buckwheat noodles for the instant ramen noodles.
You can just fry the egg beforehand. Or scramble it, throw some chives in it, and then fry it. Otherwise, I kind of think of the egg being used to flavor the ramen soup, because I cook it so it separates and permeates the soup. I can't think of anyway to flavor soft-boiled egg...
Have you tried adding cheese? It's surprisingly good when you top the finished ramen with it. I also like ham with ramen too.
....Now I want ramen. I swear it's a disease.

Stole a few packs from a friend who got it from his visiting relatives a little back, it was definitely delicious, as delicious as described here, but at just under 2$ a pack? Not that delicious. If they were sold individually I'd say go for it to have a luxury meal and try it, but they aren't THAT good lol.
