So, as I stated my frustration with the current situation of the Queen, and her part of the swarm in an earlier post.
A thought crossed my mind last night when I was eating and watching a random stream here on tl.net - a p vs z game where the protoss really abused the force fields . And then it hit me.

Make the queen a massive unit - and all protoss players about to flame away - hold that flame, just a moment please.

It would mostly be a defensive option for the zerg, to not be totally owned by the force fields. Sure, it probably will be used offensivly by some, and sometimes, but I mean, it's not like someone is going to rush a Queen over to the protoss opening and remove the force fields that way - that would need some extensive creep-spread. But defensivly it would be really awesome. It would also probably prompt many zerg players to make an extra or a few extra queens - looking at it that way would actually weaken the offensive until late game - and if you die to a queen removing some forcefields then - well, feel free to die. You should be able to handle it.

Queens are big, easily clicked on - easily focused to oblivion. I mean, even feedback would be viable if you have a lot of queens as zerg and march out with your queens.

A unit as big as a queen should be massive. That's my thought.
Or maybe a t1 upgrade making the queen massive. But that was my friends idea and I don't really like it. But hey, I'm biased.

Voidrays would fuck the living shit out of them.

Maybe they could crush force fields while on creep. But now we're getting too complicated...

I dislike this suggestion, it would only serve to neuter protoss 1 base aggresion and many 2 base all-ins. And it doesn't look to me like 1 base or 2 base all-ins of Protoss are overpowered.

Not only that, but I would find it pretty unkind towards Protoss players that kept their early game Sentries alive, considered Queens could be dropped on top of force fields. They deserve some kind of a reward.

You should be able to handle not having forcefields at all if you're attacking? Really?

Forcefields are sort of protosses only hope vs ling centric openings, until they can tech to splash damage, or somehow keep a +1 upgrade lead. Also, dropping queens on forcefields in the midgame would (while pretty funny) make engaging zerg harder. On the flipside, unscouted void rays would essentially become an insta-gg because i think they get something huge like 30% bonus damage vs massive.

FlaShFTW, problem is that you can't really have ultra early-mid-game.

Zerg would almost never win against two stargate void rays with this change. I would rather see Protoss and force field changed in a way that would make force fields less used. It would be nice to see force fields cost something like 75 or 100 energy and be unable to be used on ramps much like warp-ins. In exchange the Protoss gateway units could become stronger and colossus slightly weaker.

If your dropping queens ontop of forcefields you deserve a fucking gold star for that kind of zerg micro lol.

I really like the suggestion actually... or just give the queen a passive ability that could be used to destroy forcefields... melee range ofc. I mean the biggest flaw would be zerg would auto-lose vs unscouted stargate play, but the same goes for dt play, no?

I never really thought it was a fair ability to completely lock a zerg out of their base for... ever? At the 10 minute mark? If someone manages to get a proxy hatch going, then imagine it like a cannon rush. The mechanics work basically the same, except the zerg invests even MORE than a protoss does to it.

Cool thought, I think it's cool.

THIS IS SPARTA...N QUEEN!!!!!

In all seriousness, I really like this idea. To anyone who says that this will make queens OP, you are talking about taking a unit that is near impossible to do anything with other than simple production boosting without huge amounts of micro and time/resource investment and you are making it a bit more inviting/viable to do that while keeping it just as massive of an apm/resource/time investment. Also, it gives the zerg more options in terms of viable builds/playstyles, which is always good (just imagine queens not being quite as absurdly kitable by marauders, not being able to be lifted up by phoenixes, and being able to nullify forcefields if on the frontlines, and creep spread becoming WAY more important because of the usefulness of queens on creep after this).

I personally would prefer if it was an upgrade that you could get at the spawning pool or hatchery to make it more of a strategic choice (between being more vulnerable to voids versus being more vulnerable to forcefields) and also keep with the idea of queens being something that you have to invest a lot into to make them useful but once you invest into them they give unique and powerful options

To anyone who doesn't understand what I mean about queen use, you can skim through this thread on another forum about queen-based unit compositions: http://thestarcast.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4356.

Yeah, I guess an upgrade would be the best option in this case. Making the Zerg more adaptable to what they're attacked with.
It would make it possible for protoss to 'force' the zerg down the wrong path.

I obviously like this idea ;-)
