On the topic of the reddit post, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, however, it doesn't mean you have to share them and if you do, especially on the internet where everything is open, you have to be prepared to feel the wrath of those that form opinions of you from this.
Saying that Brood War is the only real esport is like saying Football(soccer) is the only real real sport and implying such a notion will frustrate a lot of people that put effort and time into these games.
Just because something is less popular doesn't make it invalid.

Feels like you gonna let the haters win. Sorry to see you go Milkis..you did an awesome job
|
You're taking this a bit seriously. Quitting the internet because someone called you a name just makes you look stupid.
|
You've done a lot of good things for the community Milkis. Listen to Tyler and Rekrul, and I hope we see you back here soon.

When you put yourself out infront of this many people there's always that 1% of idiots that don't know wtf and spit bile from their internet chairs and that sort of shit tends to bubble up. Please think on it some more.

The world SUCKS. No matter what there is someone out there who is going to hate on you. You could be the perfect man and please everyone and STILL there's gonna be that one asshole that just doesn't care and want to insult you.....
This is pretty much TL: 40% complete dicks 50% decent people 10% ballers
Don't let those 40% dicks bring you down just cause they don't like you....
Because you got 60% on your side man.....
Agree with his post or not, rage quitting like this after you post a controversial article is just childish and border-line an act to try to get attention. He should have expected this backlash and he apparently can't handle it, to me that means he doesn't deserve the spotlight. Incontrol and others have been shat on so much more than Milkis and still keep going strong.

I met you at MLG Raleigh and we talked with DRG. I thought you were a nice guy and you did a good job.
Hope things work out for you good sir.

I wish you the best sir.
You tarnish your memory with this. Next time remember: "Before all major life decisions-masturbate."
Don't do things when not in a calm emotional state basically.

Some people take years to get good at it and be at peace with all the things the community says and other people should just avoid it completely. Keep in mind that when you say something publicly and read so much feedback, you are going to get every single kind of response. You may as well not read the feedback and just imagine "what is every possible way someone could respond to this?" There's really no difference. If you are seeking a consensus response, keep in mind that consensus easily changes one day to the next. Using large scale public feedback is very very tricky. Most people don't need to. Ask advice privately from people you trust and respect. I'm sure you'd do great with just that.
--When you express opinions or explain your stance on an issue, it reads better and makes you feel better if you are very humble and not too ambitious with your claims. This is just a change in the phrasing and mood of the text and careful clipping of the scope on everything you say. Unless you are absolutely 110% sure that what you're saying is correct and you're willing to defend exactly what you said to the death (even if you wrote ambiguous things and said things you didn't mean to), then you should be as humble and as limited as possible. You should act like you are willing to change every opinion you have, or perhaps go farther than that and act like you want to change every opinion you have, even if you don't feel that way at all. You can be 99% sure that you're completely correct, but you should still act this way. You should do it because it makes it much easier to cope when it turns out you are wrong or when it turns out that everyone hates what you're saying (even if they can't prove that you're wrong and even if it's not wrong at all). And you act that way because people will respond to it better and like you more.
All sorts of very smart and successful people practice this, whether in academia or business. They have extreme and passionate sentiments hidden behind impenetrable walls of humble and limited public speech.
day9 is such a shining example of this, but its not because he "limits" or "acts" in a certain way like you suggest. its because his core values are so strong and well aligned. "be open-minded!" , "be positive about things!" , "love to learn!", "comedy over tragedy!", "just do it!". he doesnt need to "act" in a certain way because his core values already point him in that direction, and they are so strong and in the forefront of his mind and so well practiced/natural talent? that he seldom runs into problems.
im not saying that you should wanna be like day, but there might be some things from him that you can learn. my first thought , reading your OP, was "hell yeah man its good to be angry !!! but damn dont be so angry that you say you're leaving, thats too overboard!". you do describe it as a pretty shitty experience you're going through (hard work and getting dissed constantly) so whatever, who are we to judge you and possibly imagine the situation?!
edit: oh man this thread is 33 pages? *bails out*
ps: kelly milkes is a guy?

I'm sorry, but how can you not realize that this is a small minority of people that gave comments like this? Do you really think that we all ganged up and started hating you? "Good riddance to you all." Wtf, you're really blaming everybody?
Jeez, grow up man.

Don't do this because of them.

That is NOT what he wrote. You need to read better.

Don't quit now. Everyone is bad when they start but they get better and become big in the community. if you quit now you'll have gone through the crap but never gotten to the place where you get the reward.
Also the internet in general is full of haters. Never look for them for actual guidance or feedback.

You were my favorite poster :/
