Just had something so odd happen. I was out to lunch with a buddy from work, and when we came back we saw a sizable deer eating some shrubbery. My buddy drove and it just happened that the deer was by his normal parking spot. It also just so happened that he parked so that the deer was about 10 feet from the passenger side door.
Now, it is just a deer so there shouldn't be much reason to be scared, right? Except this thing is pretty freakin large for a deer (was a 6 point buck). So as my friend is laughing at me, I'm sitting there timidly WTFing at what to do. So I slowly open the door and the deer stops eating and stares at me. I sit there staring back, almost forming some sort of weird animal human silent bond. I get out of the car and he keeps watching.
I shut the door and it must have startled him, as I hear him suddenly jump. Thinking he's going to charge my ass I'm like "OH #$^%!" and move to teh other side of the car with my friend still laughing. The deer wasn't charging though...he was running into the street. My friend sees this and it's like slow motion as we watch a car come around the corner at about 25mph and flat out hit this buck with a significant thud.
I was WTFing so much at how I pretty much just caused that to happen indirectly. Luckily, the buck shrugs it off gets up and continues waltzing away. The jeep that hit it just keeps on driving and doesn't even check for damage. We both just shrug at it and go back to work.
Thought I'd write a blog to help with how random what just happened is. It's like I shared a momentary bond with it, and almost got it killed. Hopefully it was just slightly injured and can continue terrorizing the shrubs in our parking lot.
We work at a software engineering company in the city for reference (our building is near some hilly forest stuff though).
Deer actually can attack humans. They can even do serious damage. Fortunately, most damage done by deer is when they get in the way of a rather fast moving car.

I'm sure deer get sick of people constantly coming into their home so I could see them attacking someone. They also might attack you if they're protecting their young as well.
Well, I thought it might come run at me if it got startled because it might have been a male during mating season or something where it wants to charge everyone and everything to prove dominance or something crazy like that...
This reminded me of this one video where this Indy racecar was speeding through a forest (part of the track) and hit this deer. The deer flew like 20 feet up in the air.
Reminds me the one time I went outside and there was a moose in the drive way. Uturned back into the house, week later we had moose meat but holy crap those things are just a lil big
