Why start a blog?
I keep a blog separate from this (on another site) that friends and family read. It contains accounts of the mundane events in my life. Recently however, I came to Seoul, South Korea to study (economics). I have been here two months already and in that time, I have suddenly created a very interesting life for myself here. Most of my friends that read the other blog don't particularly care about the Starcraft scene anymore though, so I try to keep posts about Starcraft short there. Additionally, I write for a startup site that deals with SC community news. I don't want you to think that I'm advertising for that site, so I will include the link, but it will be at the bottom of this post. Since it is a startup though (and since we're stuck on Tumblr), I have to keep all my posts short there as well.
But I prefer to craft long stories as you can probably already tell. I plan to keep this blog to post about the experiences I have had/will have in Korea watching Starcraft events. I will also make a habit of posting pictures.
A little bit about me:
I'm now 21 years old, I got Starcraft on Christmas of 1999, then received BroodWar on my birthday (in June) of 2000. After beating the campaign, I decided I wanted to try to play online, something I had never done before. With the help of my parents, I created an account named Catman27 (trust me, my mom ACTUALLY DID help me make that account). I had a little bit of fun on that account for about a year before changing to Protoss_R_Me (hey, I was 11, give me a break!). I played on that account for a couple of years, then began to play less and less until stopping almost entirely in early 2004. For these early years in Starcraft, I played Protoss.
It was the autumn of 2004 that I met new friends in high school and the Sacred Order of Teriyaki was born. The Sacred Order of Teriyaki (SOT) is a name for the clan that some friends and I were the sole members of. I changed my name to RunningInSquare and played with them until the end of BroodWar. It was also during that time that I began to start watching the proleagues in Korea. I did not follow the foreign scene. For the later years of BroodWar, it maintained that Protoss was my strongest race, but I grew bored with it, attempting (and failing) to learn Zerg as well as Terran (though that failed to a lesser extent as I saw minor success in one tournament). For the most part, I spent the later years of BroodWar playing Random.
In Starcraft 2, I have been getting more and more into it as I get away from missing BroodWar. I really love this game though and hope to see it grow. I was fortunate enough to play the beta and liked what I saw from Terran during that time. It was at that point I decided I would switch from being a Protoss/sometimes Random player to a Terran player. I hope to get my 750 1v1 wins at Terran (for the profile picture I like) and at that point, I will attempt to make the switch to Zerg, the race I have always wanted to be good with.
I really enjoy watching Starcraft and currently watch more Starcraft than I play. I watch both BroodWar and Starcraft 2. Since I arrived in August, I have attended all but 5 days of the GSL at the GOMTV studio. I missed 3 of those 5 days for BroodWar events. My favorite players from BroodWar are BoxeR (of course) as well as Nal_Ra, and Firebathero. My favorite Starcraft 2 players are BoxeR, Clide, Leenock, LosirA, and Naniwa (I like him because I also play southpaw).
I know that currently it is October, so for the first few posts, I will probably just wind up making posts that I had made for the website I write for in their unshortened glory. I will also try to post pictures. My hope it to update this blog every other day until I am caught up, then either once or twice a week once I am current.
So thanks again for reading and if you have decided to stick around and keep reading, thanks in advance. And before I say goodbye, here is that link I promised. We're hoping to eventually grow beyond tumblr to eventually become a more legitimate place for Starcraft community news. I am one of three people writing, but I usually tag my posts with "RunInSquares." It's also safe to assume that if something about Korea comes up, I had a hand in it getting posted.

I'll post this weekend. Goodbye until then.
