I know Elky and Grrr... as well as, of course, a certain Dan Schreiber all play poker. And I heard (from Kiwi) that it's "easy money"? I know that's obviously exaggerated, but is it true that good poker players in their prime make a LOT?

Todd Brunson: He is known for having won over $13.5 million in a two day span in a heads-up, $50,000-$100,000 limit hold-em game, as chronicled in 2005 book, The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King. source: wikipedia.

Hmm I used to play a lot of bw, now I watch 2-3 hours of sc2 a day since it came out. I lurk these forums but don't post a lot anymore. Also that todd brunson game is one of the biggest games ever played, so it's not a good standard.

Elky seemed ubermotivated and looked decent but then this video later appeared of him fighting in an MMA cage. He unfortunately looked really weak in that one. He did fight a french guy in english boxing so no kick allowed, i felt really dissapointed. Everyone seems to know the outcome of the fight. By the way how long have you been doing thai? Don't go too hard on him

I'm just looking to get a perspective on how much the averagely successful poker player has. Lots of ex broodwar players have made well into the millions in poker over the years. Some examples are Elky, Slayer, bigballs (tl poster), z7-rain, ETC.

Other than that a certified radiology nurse definitely makes more per year on average. So please go to college. I think a good example of what you could expect a "decent poker pro" to make per year would be in the $250k range. If you get to where you can 6-table $5/$10 NL6max, and win just a single buy in per day, that is ~$365k per year. Of course, nobody has a winning session every single day, there's downswings and variance and run bad and distractions and all sorts of things that effect can your play, not to mention somebody might just be soulreading you all day or something of that nature. However, let's say you win a single buy in 2 out of every 3 sessions, and in that one losing session you don't go on lifetilt and lose half your bankroll, you would figure to make $200k+ per year. Of course this example assumes a lot, but I would wager the winrates of the majority of regulars at the $5/$10 stakes is something like +$100-300k per year. RaSZi, or Lex Veldhuis as the poker world knows him, is not an average player though. He is a sick baller, and according to PokerTableRatings (not 100% accurate, but close) he is up ~$5m lifetime on PokerStars.

I mean we aren't going to get into the whole sitting behind the computer screen getting monitor tan clicking buttons 8 to 12 hours a day doing propbets out of insane boredom, right? It is different, I hope people do research before submerging themselves into something that isn't nearly as rewarding as it used to be 8 years ago.

I hope for vod or stream of the fight - I am cheering for you but I'd also love to see you get beat up - it's about as much of a win win scenario as humanly possible. Yeap, hoping for a stream, or at least a vod! Good luck to you, i'll be rooting for whoever kicks the most ass. Good luck in the future tournaments etc too!

A game like that doesn't happen very often. Actually these games happen more often than not. Of course it's limited to the high end pros that can front that kind of money and it's only one group that I know of, "The Corporation". http://www.keepyourpokerface.com/50226711/phil_ivey_and_the_corporation_win_166_million.php
