SCOOBY
A darling fuzzball who was adopted by a loving couple three years ago. He was originally found hanging out in a dumpster when the shelter picked him up, and back then he was very thin. Of course as you can see he got quite fat once he had food! However, we recently got a note from the family saying that around the time of Hurricane Irene, Scooby was diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive form of brain cancer and had to be put down. We will all miss him.
RINGO
Named for the perfect ring of white around his tail, but also known as "Mr. Crabby". He was very stressed and unhappy at the shelter as he didn't like living around other cats. One of our volunteers finally adopted him despite the fact that she had four other cats and a dog at home. Ringo of course did not like the cats, but apparently loved the dog. (Maybe he thought he was a dog?) He reportedly died about a week ago from heart and kidney failure; apparently the stress wasn't helping much. He may not have been well-liked, but he truly was a character. May he rest in peace.
JORDAN
(No photo available, sorry.)
His brother Onyx lives at the vet's office nearby, but sweet Jordan was never adopted. Both are solid black cats. I've been at the shelter for five years and he was one of the first cats I knew there. In a shelter like ours, it's inevitable that cats will pick up the FEC virus, but usually it's completely benign. However there's a one in five thousand chance that it will mutate into the one hundred percent fatal FIP virus. Jordan was, apparently, our one in five thousand. I will never know why he wasn't adopted earlier. He was set to be adopted this weekend...but it was too late. FIP is rapid-onset and there's nothing you can do once it's there. I'll miss you, buddy...I'll miss you.
