Short Version – Do you feel there are already enough StarCraft 2 guest interview streams, variety shows, and other content such that I shouldn’t bother trying to conceptualize and implement my own content since there are already many readily available? What do people find most interesting about the streams they watch (Watching the high quality play of the streamer to learn more, getting to know the player at a more personal level, commentary, guests, music, variety, non-StarCraft content, other, etc.)?
Long Version - read below if you are interested.
I know a lot of people (myself included) stream SC2 and other random stuff. Right now I just set up a stream for fun because at the time I had just purchased a new computer and I have a decent Internet connection at home. Considering that I am only a Gold level player, streaming my play wouldn’t really have any educational benefit (although it may be quasi-entertaining to watch how badly I play, especially for those who like watching the StarCraft 2 equivalent of a car wreck – I definitely know how to lose big battles and lose them very convincingly ). In addition, I’m not qualified enough to offer any commentary or thought processes while playing or while watching others play, so I wouldn’t do that yet until I become more experienced and knowledgable.
I was thinking of a few ways in which I can make my stream educational, entertaining, or both. I’m wanting to find out if it is worth pursuing and if anyone would find value out of these. There may already be enough well-established, high quality and entertaining content available to make another similar stream unnecessary.
1. Schedule guest StarCraft personalities and pro gamers who can be interviewed and interact with the viewers via Q&A, free lessons, practice games, etc. Logistically, is it feasible based on their availability, or maybe some players are only willing to go on streams of more well-known people (I’m pretty much a nobody at this point)? I know there are appearance fees involved, but I can cover those if it adds value to the community.
2. Provide non StarCraft-related help, such as free math and science tutoring, help with homework or with other topics where I am pretty knowledgable. If I cannot help the individual(s) myself, I can serve as a facilitator while the chatroom helps each other out. I realize no one may care about this but I am just brainstorming as I type.
3. Stream mostly based on viewer requests via chat or e-mail (cool links, videos, music, other random topics, etc.).
4. Stream other computer games (chess, Monopoly, whatever) and old retro games (VGA action!).
5. Do nothing new and just stream my SC2 ladder games and practice games with practice partners.
