Gotta say, this season had probably the least number of competent chefs. But I think the final 2 were pretty good choices out of all the contestants.

Reading the comments on Youtube, gotta say, there's a vast majority of people believing that Will should've won. But I think Ramsay made the right call. Paul's a true leader. Will is a great cook and probably a better cook than Paul. Just judging from the challenges, Will's dishes looked so much more complex and intricate than Pauls'. However, Paul makes up for that with his leadership. First, he got Elise and Carrie to not argue. That is a testament in and of itself. Considering what those two did to each other, I wrote off Paul at the start of dinner service cuz I just thought "His team blows". But he proved me wrong. Second, Paul is much more motivational than Will. Sure, his story about his mother was touching. But it was more than just that. You can feel his enthusiasm and passion. It's really contagious. I mean, I would be more pumped up with Paul as my boss than Will. So I think the only reason Ramsay picked a slightly inferior chef was because of that one trait.

Best of luck to you Paul! I know you'll do very well at BLT! Your mother would be very proud. But honestly Ramsay, don't sell yourself to purely TV entertainment. Keep the show centred around what it was meant to be. Cuz I honestly don't know if I can watch another season of this. What do you guys think? Did Ramsay make the right call?

Your vote: Who should've won HK Season 9?

(Vote): Will

It's reality TV in the end, so who knows what we did not see.

All I think of is "ITS RAWWWW, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING TRYING TO SERVE RAW HALIBUT IN MY FCKING RESTAURANT!!!"

Haven't watched past the first 3 episodes this season but it was a promising one up til I stopped.

Simply, Paul managed to lead the kitchen with the most number of incompetent team members and managed to go toe to toe with Will's team.

off topic, but I really don't get how people on Hell's Kitchen manage to serve raw food

all they have to do is take a look at the damn food they are cooking

Imo this was the most surprising ending of any season. I've correctly predicted the winner of every single season even when there is as many as 6+ people left. I had Will to win it since there were about 8 chefs left.

Giving Paul credit for Elise and Carrie not fighting is going too far. I think Will is a far better chef and a better leader. Look at the finale, Gordon Ramsay made a couple criticisms of Pauls dishes and he had to run to the dorms to pout. Will just emanates confidence 100% of the time and never loses his cool. Will is as cool as a cucumber, always in control.

Also if you look at past winners - none of them stay with Ramsay all that long. I have a feeling that the grand prize isn't that good. Paul seemed like he really wanted it a lot more and maybe Ramsay was looking for someone that was committed to the prize and would be a good employee, whereas Will might leverage his victory for an even better position. Paul is like 26? I doubt they are going to give him control over the entire restaurant. His title is "head chef", whatever that means. They will probably make him some kind of sous chef.

Head chef is equivalent to a line cook.

Head chef does NOT mean you run a restaurant. That is an EXECUTIVE chef.

The contestants know the difference, this is just a job cooking at a restaurant for a year, nothing more.

^ Yeah I don't think any of the winners ever became an executive chef for winning. On the air they pretend like they will be getting control of their own restaurant and in reality that are just a sous chef at best

I think winning the show's biggest prize is the publicity, not the actual job itself. You can tell others "hey, I won Hells Kitchen S9" instead of saying "hey, I'm a head chef at [so and so restaurant]". That in itself is a reward.

I understand they picked him because he had more "passion," but honestly when I saw him crying on TV and saying he had to win because he promised his dead mom he would (wtf?) it felt really over the top to me.

But in the end I think it's all about good television, they pick the public favorite most of the time. That's why they kept that terrible and annoying Elise bitch on the show for so long, because she was a figure people would love to hate. My wife cheered when she finally got booted off.

I couldn't really get into this show, it was more drama and people yelling at each other and shit instead of actual cooking. Master Chef was a class above.

Yah, Master Chef is more about the cooking. It's night and day. But still, the winners of HK Season 1-4 I think, were all pretty deserving.

I understand that Paul bringing up his mom is kind of a ......... -_-........ moment, but I think it was genuine. He wasn't playing anyone on that. So I think it was a sincere gesture.
