I think blogs will be appropriate for this and I want to give everyone, old and new, an old perspective on TL that has only been shown through bumping old threads, which won't have a similar impact.

I would like to show everyone what Teamliquid was like years ago and how it has changed. You will not just see more Brood war which a lot of people would expect; but every person who changed this site over the years, and a continually rising amount of active members (in the top left). You will not be able to sleep tonight, because you can't stop thinking about when Plexa will start writing again, since
his writeups were amazing.

Alot of people who joined at starcraft's launch overlook TL's environment except that they played brood war more. Hopefully some of these pictures give a different perspective and look at them closely, like the active member account and tournaments taking place.

High Res Images are uploaded as well in case you can't see it well.
A picture says a thousand words but it would be interested to hear people's stories, including people who are new to TL, as in how they got here. It's incredibly interesting looking at the member count on TL in those pictures go up slowly, along with the posts, current tournaments, etc. I think in a couple of years everything will slow down a bit more which is good and bad. I like to see some old thread getting bumped, as I missed a few as well, but I don't think they have the same impact since most of the people after they get bumped just post 20 pages of "LOL" or "Epic" as opposed to most of the original posts. What's better than seeing when it actually happen like some of the posts in the pictures? I love stuff like this since I don't post very much.

Thank you for reading and seeing.

And here is an old old replay of Elky vs Rekrul.

Always nice with some nostalgia. The 08-09 SS's are white because of your settings right ? I cant remember it was ever that white for me.

Holy crap. Having joined TL only after the release of sc2, it's amazing to see how much the site has grown in the past 1-2 years. I can only imagine how stressed the mods must be...

Everyone had a role in some way. And they handled it well, but hopefully it still dies down a little in a couple of years.

Also, look at this. Credit goes to Spazer.

o.o ... Can't tell if you are serious lol.

TL is consistently a place of mixed feelings for me. There's more people here, but there's less content also if you don't care about half assed streams. No more final edits, but a bigger audience if you decide to do something yourself? A bigger audience, but a high chance of a thread dying within a day if it is tl;dr. Makes low effort, shorter content more popular. Nice people and mean people on staff. More people on staff now than ever, means higher chance of less benevolent mods. Not like the very beginning when Rekrul just banned people who minorly annoyed him (before my time tbh), but somewhere in between when manifesto was a father figure more than a mod and took care of his nerds. Now there's just a lot of people who want to be right. What can you say about a place like TL? It's dynamic in more ways than one.

I tried my best not to reveal some of this.. Not TL specifically, and I'm going to get a lot of shit for this, but I kind of hope the community in general dies down in a couple of years, like gets smaller. Not dead but just slightly smaller.. To be honest, I think high numbers of staff is necessary, considering the amount of bad posters. So yeah, there is a lot of mixed feelings. Can't say really any of it is TL's fault though. Nobody expected their active member count to go up 20x when sc2 came.

Had no idea TL was that small before SC2, from 700 people online to 14000 is quite a development.

Yet many of the old BW enthusiasts seem to think what SC2 brought to TL was a curse. I guess smaller community has a lot of positive sides but for the site and the team having over ten times more visitors can't be a bad thing.

How did the site take such a step back in the design from 2004 to 2009? in 2009 in looked frankly horrible.

Bigger community = better in the majority of cases in my opinion.

TL was a great place already prior to SC2 but I think SC2 really helped TL immensely!

that's just some browser/temporary site error. design wise it was almost the same in 2009 as in 2006- probably some small changes to bars like "general forum" etc but the site wasn't designed to be all white for two years.

Site remained pretty much same in design since it opened until late 2008 when it got new front page.

The reason some of these screenshots are messed up is because they were taken from web.archive.org and for some reason web archive didn't save sidebar content from 2002/2003, and it's also portraying year 2008 and 2009 without css (visual design).

Actually, the community effect is more apparent in smaller groups.

Sociability is better in larger groups, no?

Now I figured out what was so weird about pre-2006... the sidebar banners were written in a weird font.

(also ?? at the confusing lack of css in the 2008-2009 ones... )

Hahaha the jump from 09 to 10 in terms of the look of the site is pretty insane! looks like a lot of hard work went into that. The user count was also a solid increase with SC2

Thanks for these! Really fun

LOL!

My my my... How things have changed! I tend to agree with Chef's sentiment... there have been good and bad things with the influx of users. C'est la vie!

Errr

2004?

I thought we had a good following by then. Were those numbers taken when OSL/MSL were live?

That's kind of creepy. To think I'm one of the old ski's. I could have sworn we had 500-600 people watching at least for the finals and semis, lol.
