Hey TL. I'm pretty pissed about shit and need some advice/a place to vent

So I guess I should give an overview first. I had a Model UN competition today. *I would like to note that the way Model UN is done where I live is different from how it's done in the states.* Needless to say, it did not go well. Here is why:

First I need to explain my last competition. This was my second competition, and the last one of the school year. I paired up with a senior, who was a good friend of mine, as a codelegate. This would be his last competition. We did well (honorable mention, equivalent to 4th place) but ultimately I felt like I failed him by not performing anywhere near his level in committee. He had told me how much he wanted to place top 3 Anyways I went home after the competition and felt like shit. I really did, it was the worst feeling failing someone else. However, I promised myself I would learn from this, and that I would proceed to kick ass in future competitions.

Today was the competition that followed the last. I have had shittons of homework this week but I found the time to make a position paper and do all my research, and I think I came in VERY prepared. I sat front row, and was ready to take the my prize. Into committee, I realized I was NEVER being called by the chairs. There were 6 debates in total. All of them I had something to say. I was only called for one, and some delegates were called at least twice per debate. At this point I was really pissed.

I realized first, second, third, even an honorable mention was beyond my reach at this point. the only hope to even get an oral mention was to become the sponsor for a working paper. however, some delegations were way out of policy, and the working papers all proved to be different from what I was proposing. I picked the one closest to what my proposals were, naturally, although this was quite a stretch.

This was the first competition of the year, and delegations were assigned "new" or "veteran". since I had not done a full year of UN, I was originally assigned "new". 2 "new" members had to sponsor a working paper.

So, in my group, I worked my ass off for a sponsorship. Adapting plans, skipping lunch, everything was for the plan. Other sponsors just sat on their ass and relied on seniority to get their sponsorship. I was definitely the most qualified to represent the group. However, I was listed as a "new" sponsor rather than a "veteran"

Suddenly, there's a change, and since I had attended a competition before I was classified as "veteran". I therefore could not be a "new" sponsor, and was dropped.

In the end, I won nothing, and it was all beyond my control. I'm writing this tired as fuck and pissed off as fuck, I failed my goal, I failed my codelegate friend from the previous competition, and it was all beyond my control, which makes it all the worse.

So TL, I ask you,
should I:

a) quit UN
I have been considering this since its been 2 competitions which took extensive preparation and took a chunk off my weekend that resulted in me ending up very frustrated. I hate quitting, I think it shows weakness, but I found this very unfair

b) keep on going
Hoping it will get better

Additionally, does anyone have any advice for how to cope with this?

I'm very tired so i might not have made much sense, ask anything ^^

ty

OMG Model UN... i remember we used to do this in middle school and early high school, and after seeing "Fight Club" everyone going on these trips decided to have mini fight clubs in the hotel rooms on Model UN trips. All the guys would show up to debates with bruises and disheveled shirts/ties, and the teachers / girls would be like what the fuck happened to you?

Nobody said a word, because the first rule of Model UN fight club is you do not talk about fight club.

I think they might ban you from the ♣ now...

I think you'd do well, and enjoy, a properly run Model UN. But this one just sounds like shit.

MODEL UN FTW.

I don't think I did anything as extensive as this though... I was in something called Commonwealth so it was much easier :o
If it's not your thing, you should just quit since its so much work imo

My roomate in college did Model UN..sounded like there was as much bullshit in those competitions as actual politics, some of the things I heard he did in competitions was just crazy for an extracurricular.

My advise: if you aren't planning on doing something in politics, get the hell out. I'm sure the time you spent thus far has taught you a lot, better to get out before you become too frustrated if it's not something you enjoy doing.

thing is it is something I enjoy doing, but after so much preparation i was not called on nearly as much as some other people. im very disappointed with it, and in retrospect this was a waste of a complete waste of a weekend and my time. i felt so shitty afterwards idk if i wanna keep on doing this.

If you have any doubt in your mind about going to another Model UN- then quit it.
I went to one of those... everyone ganged up on us cause we were the USA.

Also, hot_bid won this.
MBC/Liquid/TSM always.
