I had a similar experience with my van and parking, registration, and street sweeping tickets (among insurance, gas, and car maintenance) It was so expensive that I ended up losing everything and I still owe money on the expired registration ticket that went to collections 1250$. And I since I lost my job and cant drive i am far worse off than before i had the car and job to begin with.

I would hate driving also if I caused myself so much needless grief. Slow the fuck down, stop drinking and driving, and think.

Well i am sure you learned your lesson now , drive under the speed limit from now on, Money doesnt grow on trees and spending 1 more minute of driving wont kill you you know , might actually save your life.

Wow, I learned after 1 ticket to stop speeding. Sounds like you just don't learn from mistakes too easily. Did you know if you sped less you would use up less gas?

Depends on the speed limit, the car, and the roads, actually. Certain speeds are incredibly inefficient for certain cars in certain gears. Automatics especially can have trouble, in particular if they have overdrive and you live in a hilly region.

Also, acceleration (especially hard acceleration) is where the gas loss really comes from. You can speed a bit over on the highway and get essentially the same mileage. It's just the aggressive driving pattern usually associated with speeding involves hard acceleration, losing the gas.

Mind you, tickets still cost more than the extra gas from slight inefficiency at a certain speed.

I was waiting for someone to come and get Bill Nye all over my last sentence. I meant it assuming he probably floors it from a stop considering it sounds like he drives like an asshole, not going 5 miles over will kill gas mileage, guess I worded it wrong

Yeah, it's much more aggressive driving that kills mileage than any particular speed. And the driving pattern is much more concerning than the particular speeds.

Telling him not to drive like a moron and he'll save gas and possibly lives, and definitely cash makes more sense in my book. I know plenty of people who don't really speed but still drive like complete ignorant assholes. I've nearly been run off the road by people like that more times than I can count.

That's the main reason I corrected it. The speeding is a symptom, the problem is driving like an ass.

I'm sure you are mister perfect. On a side note, I don't know exactly how far you must drive to go to work but you might want to consider public transpo. :D

Read the op again. Everyone makes mistakes but in this case what he said was actually warranted to op.

It sounds like you're a shitty, reckless driver who also drinks and drives.

Driving doesn't suck, you suck.

In those 35 zones you should consider watching out for people's kids instead of cops. They have low speed limits for a reason.

Driving doesn't sucks in my book. Been doing it for 13 years now (started 18 when it's legal in here to drive a car and never stopped) and I've only "earned" myself 2 tickets thru out all these years ... Parking tickets that is. And it's not like I've been driving some old beat up car that can't go over the speed limit. I had, for 12 months, a Nissan 300ZX bi-turbo :D Had to part with it coz I couldn't keep up with its gas bills. Real shame, but that's reality here.

To put it into perspective, going 47 mph in a 30 zone would lose you your licence in Norway and you wouldn't be able to get it back for at least 3 months. A blood alcohol level of 0.077 would also cause you to lose your licence without being able to get it back for over a year.

You speak about the problem as if it is only financial, but the fact is that you are a dangerous driver and should also worry about your safety.

Your cost to society when you do these behaviors is way higher than the fines would portray.

Maybe I am indeed a very very conservative driver. And don't drink. But for the love of god, don't underage drink and drive.

Also, you might want to get a really cheap used compact car. Because if you are spending that much on gas in that distance you're probably driving an Abrams tank.

I've been a driver for 10 years now. Had to junk my last car in April. I couldn't afford to keep it on the road. Finishing college and working only part time, it was too expensive to maintain. Been taking the bus/bike ever since.

Also remember driving is a privilege, not a right. I love driving, but you won't appreciate what you have until you lose it. Be smart, drive safe.
