If you thought this was about the ability blink then you are wrong hahha
No this entry is just about something ive noticed about myself that I would like to share with my fellow TLers. So ive played starcraft for about 4 months now and loved every bit of it. Just got into diamond not to long ago and yada yada. Well yesterday i noticed that after every ladder session or playing with friends my eyes were burning. I just thought that it was staring at the computer screen for a long time. In reality it was that i was only blinking like TWICE through an entire game that would last 30 - 40 mins. A point brought up to me by one of my friends that happened to be over while i was laddering. So this brings me to a questions about other TLers do you have any weird thing you do while playing.

Don't blink. Blink and you're dead.
Also, I need to have a drink after every match.
|
My best friend holds his breathe without noticing and then starts gasping, lol.
I sit criss-cross-apple-sauce in my desk chair, which I don't find that weird, but other people sometimes do for some reason.
|
Holy sheet my friends noticed that when I play any dota type games o.o

Play Protoss and start going blink stalkers every game. You'll probably remember to blink. Then go back to playing normally.
Try it! hahaha.

I've heard of this before... so it can't be that uncommon. I don't think I ever had a problem blinking or breathing normally...

Apparently my facial expression is hilarious to look at when I play

lol @ the breathing one damn that would suck and i guess i never thought of it as abnormal but i normally cross my feet at the ankles for some reason.

Some progamers blink excessively before/after games to make up for it actually.

For me it depends on the game. Starcraft feels slow enough to allow you to blink, however in fighting games I just can't blink.

This is why most gamers with bad eyes wear glasses rather than contacts. Contacts will dry out and blur up if you do this, and if they dry a bit and you blink, you can even blink one out. Not worth the risk.
Yes, this is experience, so yes, I know what you mean and do it too. I also have to have something for my feet to play with, like a desk bottom or footrest while gaming, or I'll go insane shifting my legs until I'm actually conscious of it.
When I was younger, I couldn't play video or computer games while leaning back, one of my first roomies in the army would occasionally give me shit about it, as I'd end up leaning way forward while I was kicking his ass at Tekken 4.
Like other people have said, I have less trouble with blinking during RTS, but in FPS, fighters, or games I play faster I never blink. Mind, I also don't play RTS at the same level I do others. (Also not competitive, but I'm much better at games where I only have to control one thing and watch a million, or watch one and know a million things.

I have a tendancy to chew my inner lips. I chew them so hard that they crease and cause wounds inside. I'm trying to stop that conciously during matches now.
The blinking thing doesn't bother me though, since I used to play alot of counter-strike, I guess I'm just used to it.

I did that at one point. I suggest getting the mint flavored toothpicks, and shred those instead.

I open my mouth while I play, sorta looks like what grubby looked like while he was playing wc3

I have almost the opposite effect that you have lol. When I'm playing SC I sometimes find it hard to concentrate and do some half-assed 2 base allin or forget to scout. bases/ unit comp/ etc.

I don't really play games but I just don't blink much generally either. At MLG I was watching people play and man nobody blinks at all. boes went for about five or so minutes without blinking in one of his games.

I dont have any problem with breathing but I hardly ever blink while doing anything I'm concentrating on. ie. Reading, SC, Watching anything Interesting. As a result of this I have to use drops to stop irritation.
|
I've never had this problem while playing SC2 and I'm in diamond as well. Maybe it's in your head how intense you're playing the game? I cannot imagine every ladder game you play is so epic that you cannot waste time to blink lol.
But like other people I mostly experienced this when I played CS competitively, and when I was playing music/rhythm games on the higher difficulties.

Pretty normal. I didn't notice it myself until I was playing Halo 2 with friends back in the day and a guy watching us noticed I basically stopped blinking in a 10 minute match.

Use eyedrops ~every 2 hours. Helps reduce my eye dryness a ton.

well im glad im not the only one and it seems to me like a nervous tick actually since it happens alot when i give speeches or something never blink and it freaks people out haha robot eyes but i cant think of what it would be that makes me nervous when i ladder unless its a zerg...
