Hey guys,

A few days ago i received a partner invitation from youtube and accepted it.
I've made over 400 video's most are related to minecraft. I'm on almost 300k views because i've got a few video's that receive a nice amount of viewers everyday so that's how i got partner!
I was really surprised that i received it! Most partners get 50k views each upload while I'm really only getting about 200 which is not a whole lot

Here is one of my texture pack reviews

I'm thinking of doing some starcraft stuff. I play from time to time. was a decent broodwar player and got master rank sc2 without any problems.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Well my only suggestions would be to lower your mouse sensitivity in minecraft while you are doing a video, not a big deal, but it is a little quick imo. And if you do decide to do some SC2, remember that it is already heavily saturated with casters, and imo, im losing track of them, and only listen to those who really know the game, entertainment is great, but thats preety much any caster. The real good casters now, are going to know the game inside out, and not make wrong assertments in their commentary. Example, Adebisi starcraft, really really knows the game well, and because of that, it is very entertaining. Either way, congrats! and GL in the future!

Congrats man!

470 videos is a hell of a lot, you must be dedicated!
Now you'll get at least 201 views per video; I'm a sucker for all things minecraft :D

I don't think he's a full partner like me.

Some people can only place ads on their video's and some have way more features ( full partners )

By partner what does this exactly mean? Money? or valuable options/upgrades?

It means you can earn revenue from your videos but also options like branding and a few upgrades!

Hey ZhenMiChan I also recently got a email to earn revenue for my channel which only has several 3 year old YuGiOh videos each with roughly 2k views each, how can I tell what sort of partner program I'm in?
Is there a difference between applying for partnership, and getting an email from YouTube?
Does full partner = customizable banners on your videos and channels?
Oh and I liked your review video, I'm going to be uploading a whole bunch of 'the best of' LP minecraft videos with my friends (YouTube.com/uzelessness if your curious)
I want to upload SC2 but I'm only plat haha
also now I find that I'm actually reading alot of my games Terms and conditions for commercial videos lol - minecraft content is safe
Anyway congrats on the full partnership

Doesn't it also allow you to upload vids longer than 10 minutes?

Congrats on becoming a partner! :D

I always wondered, how much does one make off youtube partnership? Like, per view?

I too am also wondering this.. Never really been able to find out the amount.

Also, is YouTube really as bad with partnerships as MrChiCity made it sound in one of his final videos? Made me not even want to use the website anymore, but I don't really have a choice if I want to watch a video :/

Either way, congrats on making partner! If you want my opinion I would say stray away from Starcraft II related stuff as pretty much everything has already been done content-wise and you would have to either be an amazing player, coach or caster or come up with something brand spankin new or you're not going to get many views. I would say continue with minecraft and try to think outside the box since it's a relatively new game.

One of my brand new videos had 9 views which I uploaded right after I became a partner, and I saw that my adsense account (the revenue generator) had an estimated $0.02 in it, which was alot more than I had expected from 9 views.
However I have also tagged some of my older videos to generate ads also, so I have no idea if any of them contributed to that 2 cents haha.
But yea there is a small idea of how much per view you get i suppose, although I've only been a partner for a single day, you could help me figure out the pricing based on a single video if you give my new video a watch and I'll update on how much my ad revenue changes to get an idea of earnings,
just search 'the usual antics trailer' on YouTube by Uzelessness and be sure NOT to watch any of my other videos or it might mess up the numbers.

I'll take the video info down if a mod counts this as hijacking a thread

Edit: spelling

I am also a partner through Machinima, but I dont make videos anymore. I only had like 300 subs but I've still made nearly 100 bucks from 5ish videos and I still get payments of like $0.17 lmao. Good luck with your channel.

Ohh how did you end up partnering with machinima. isnt it the exact same as an independance channel partnership?
or does it work like, you actually submit videos to machinima and get paid per view for them, and your individual youtube channel remains unchanged?

Congrats on your partnership I guess. I didn't think you could make money off games due to IP broadcast rights... I'm sitting on a channel with 609 videos on it. From what I understood it was completely impossible to make money off game content without permission from the game devs as detailed in youtube's fine print or have I missed something? In the past I've run into denials for partnetship because people's content consisted of gameplay from games they didn't own, create, or have licensing for. Is it something minecraft specific?

No you just have to read through your games Terms of Use page and see if it says anything against using video footage for commercial purposes (making money)

In the case of Minecraft, the Terms of use allow you to record gameplay footage and do whatever you wish with it which means that you are allowed to use it for commercial purposes, be sure to read each games terms of use on their website. Games like Call of Duty:Black Ops have alot of commercial gameplay footage so i assume the terms of use allows for that.

I can do both, make videos and get paid on either channel, but they just have access to my account and shizz.. they favourite their big releases and stuff like that so it can be shown to more people making them more moneyz.

Hey guys!

Today I also got one of these mails from YouTube proposing to send a partner request and I have indeed been thinking about becoming a partner one day with gaming videos for a while already. However, there is one thing that I have always been wondering about, which is this:

On October 01 2011 13:15 VATO_Gandair wrote:

Indeed on the page to which I got linked in the mail it says the following:

"Your video is not eligible if it contains content that you didn't create or get permission from its creator to use. You need to be able to show written permission for the following video elements:

* Audio: recorded music, live performances, cover songs, background music, etc.
* Visuals: images, logos, software, video game footage, etc.
* Any other content you don't own worldwide commercial usage rights to."

So apparently you do need an explicit written permission from the developers if you want to legally make money with gaming videos on YouTube.

Games like Call of Duty:Black Ops have alot of commercial gameplay footage so i assume the terms of use allows for that.

You seem to be right about Minecraft but their terms of use seem to be rather unusual. For example in the SC2 ones it says the following:

"...

(b) use the Game in conjunction with the Service for your noncommercial entertainment purposes only,

...

You agree that you will not, under any circumstances:

Exploit the Game or any of its parts for any commercial purpose without Blizzard’s express permission, with the sole exception that you may use the Game, or copies of the Game, on the Service at a cyber cafe, computer gaming center or any other location based site;

..."

So in the case of SC2 they do not allow you to use the game for any commercial purpose, which probably includes making videos of the game for which you get paid, unless you get an explicit permission from Blizzard.

I also checked the terms in my CoD Black Ops manual because you mentioned that game and those are even more strict, not even making an exception for things like cyber cafes.

If I was to become a YouTube partner I would be doing videos about games from EA, so I checked one of those manuals too and their terms are even MORE strict, apparently not even allowing noncommercial videos.

Then again, during the past months I have seen more and more YouTube partner channels with only gaming videos. They are really popping up like flies these days and it seems as if there are literally hundreds of them already.

So I am wondering... how do all these people do it?

Did they really all get a written permission from the game developers? Somehow I find that pretty hard to imagine.

Or do they just don't care about the rules and hope that the developers will not mind it and not sue them?

Seeing more and more people making money with their gaming videos makes me want to do the same but on the other hand I don't want to make money in an illegal way. And according to all these terms it seems clear to me that you do need that written permission to do it legally. However, I would not even know how to contact game developers to get something like this and I also can't believe that they would give it to me so easily.

In the past I have already sent several "gaming partners" messages on YouTube and asked them if they got a permission or if it was not needed but although I always asked in a very polite way and explained that I am interested in becoming a partner myself I never got a single response. Now I don't know if they just didn't care to talk to me or if they didn't respond because they didn't have a permission knowing that they should have.

As I got into the topic again today because of that mail I searched for "YouTube partner" on TL and this was the only thread that I found, so I hope it will be alright to discuss this here, seeing that there are also some relevant postings already, some of which I quoted.

It would be really helpful if somebody who knows more about this matter could share his info with us. I understand that somebody who does make money without written permission would not want to identify himself here but maybe somebody reads this who did actually get or try to get a permission, so he could say how this was possible or not. It would be very appreciated. I know several other people who are also wondering how it works to become partner with gaming content.

Thanks in advance for any help or info!
