I'm MrDonkeyBong, a platinum level toss player from Canada, and this is my general day-to-day blog about my life, and the three things that are most important to it: school, hockey, and SC2. With school starting and hockey tryouts both beginning soon, I figured this would be a perfect time to start writing this. Of course, SC is more of a year round thing, but whatever.
Goals:
We'll start with the thing that is most important to me at this time, school. I'm 15, going into high school this year, and I am an honor student. I never did really try all that hard in school, just pay attention as much as I can, and the marks seem to come in just fine. I know that for high school this isn't likely to happen as easily, and I'll actually need to put SOME effort into my homework, etc. Especially since I am going to a high school for 'smart kids', (75% in all core subjects required to get in) teachers will likely spend less time on each topic, and expect us to get it right away. So basically my goals for this school year is to not fail any classes, obviously, but more to try to keep my general average the same as it has been in the past, high 80's or higher in every subject (except French, fuck French)
Now I value hockey and SC equally, so I'll just write hockey first just cuz :p. So I'm going into my first year of 'Midget', which is the 15-17 year old age group. I play at a fairly high level, and want to play higher this year. I'll quickly explain the tryout process for the club I am trying out for. There are 4 teams to make: (from best to worst) AAA, AA, REM AAA, and REM AA. The 'REM' teams are teams of 15 year olds only, and they play in a 15 year old league. (the reason for this is because usually age groups are split by 2 years, not 3, so the 15 year olds are usually a lot smaller and weaker then the 17 year olds). For the tryouts, the organizers randomly put together teams from everyone trying out, and play them against eachother while evaluators watch. There is also one skills session before the games. This year, there are 5 teams trying out, and since there are only 4 teams, the odds of making a team are pretty good! My goal for this season is to make one of the REM teams, preferably AAA of course. If I don't make one of those teams, I'll be pretty disappointed. Now, conditioning camp started this night, and I am writing this having just gotten back from it. I'm already in decent shape since I went on a hockey trip to Europe, pretty friggen awesome :D. Unfortunately, I will be missing the first, and possibly second try out, as I am going out to Ottawa for the weekend to see family (grandmother's 90th birthday, I live in Edmonton). Luckily, alot of the other players will not be there for the first couple try outs as well because they are going to WHL camps (these are the really good players lol)
Now for SC2. I am currently in high platinum, working on making the jump to diamond fairly soon. Any time that is not spent in school, studying, at the rink, or with friends and generally just improving my social life (girlfriend this year hopefully?) will be spent devoted to playing this wonderful game. My overall goal is to be in low masters by the end of the school year.
I'll be updating this blog every day or every few days, depending on how busy/bored I am. So please, join me on this journey through what seems to be shaping up to be a very important year in my life!
