Today i laddered 6 games. Probably will do more after my workout but thats the most i've ever done in one day. I'm one of those ladder anxiety kids.
Anyways while laddering i went to liquipedia and picked up the 4 gate build order. I never knew how cause i'm a rockin silver player. I played 2 gold players back to back and won both times. I've played about 8 games this season and i think 4 have been vs gold players or rank 1-8 silver players. Gold here i comeee
First game was a PvP on Abyssal Caverns. The spawn positions were top right and bottom right(me). He held xel'naga tower and only saw my wall off. He went nexus after core and had 3 stalkers at his expo when i had 6 stalkers and 4 zealots. Pretty one sided affair.
Second game was a PvT on Abyssal Caverns with the exact same spawns accept i was top this time. He scouted my 4 gate right after i got the 3 extra gates down. My first stalker came out as this happened, finished off his scv and i moved out with my zealot, stalker and a probe. Setup my proxy at the gold between our bases, making sure to avoid the xel'naga. Warped in a round of 3 stalkers and 1 zealot there. Moved to right out side his natural and setup another proxy and warped in 2 sentires 1 stalker and 1 zealot. Moved into to see 3 bunkers at his natural with the orbital just starting to land.
He had quite a bit. All the bunkers looked full with marauders plus a few outside of bunkers with 5 or 6 marines and a couple scv's to repair. I took out the first bunker only losing couple zealots and he got his scv's in time to repair the 2nd so i backed out. Warped in 3 zealots and a stalker. Chrono'd all 4 gates and moved all my stalkers into his natural mineral line to stop any mining. He moved the CC back to his base. He pretty much donated 6 marines and 2 marauders at this point because he didn't empty his bunkers and pull all his units to kill my 8 stalkers.
I kill that force of his. Warp in 2 more zealots and 2 stalkers. Push from both out side his natural and his mineral line. Crush him at that point.
So basically i found out that 4gate is kinda oppppppppppppppppp in lower leagues. Not hard to do really at all. Little micro helps but thats not to much of a problem. I'm wondering if it's good to use 4gate as your "base" strategy? I usually rely on 3 gate robo into expand as my standard build which works good assuming i read my opponent decently correct. But ya just wondering if 4gate is ok for a standard build.
tl;dr Is 4 gate ok for a standard build in silver?

Imo you shouldn't rely on 4-gate as a standard build. Also, it's mostly a PvP build (sometimes PvZ), and if you fail it you can be significantly behind. It's best to try to learn reactive play as soon as possible.

Try playing macro games if you want to play in higher leagues. 4gate can only get you so far...

I only recommend doing 4gate in PvP, but eventually you will get to a point where your opponents will be able to easily counter it, so you still need to learn some economical builds like 3gate robo or something In other match-ups, i dont recommend 4gating.

you should learn 1 build per match up. 4 gate can get you far but..if you want to improve, I wouldn't recommend it as a standard build except in PvP.

Kk thanks for the quick replies. I still typically go 3 gate expo. I prefer that but some of the zergs i've been playing lately.. trippin me up xD
Thanks again i'll work on de macro!

4gate won't allow you to beat the cheesers who like to DT rush in gold+.
My advice is to just play simple, standard, defensive macro. Go 2gate robo and expand. If you can do that well you will beat any silver or gold.
lol and play more than 6 games...

Good job on 6 games in a row! Thats really good for someone with ladder anxiety. =D Im in silver too and sometimes I 4gate all my games if I get too nervous to do anything else. Its an easy build to follow!

Nothing like a new Season to gain the desire to play again I will get promoted to Gold this season I swear it Also good blog and good luck I know your pain of ladder anxiety.

If you're going to 4 gate your goal should be to hit right after your first warpin (which should happen at a forward pylon) so you'll hit with 6 units.

4 gate hits at ~545. DTs come out ~7 iirc.

You're off to a great start! Once you get laddering down to habit and dissociate emotion from it, you will be able to do 10-20 games daily no sweat, no delay. That's when you really start getting results, making progress! Good luck!

My recommendation for your 3 builds to learn:
PvP: 4 Gate PvZ: 3 Gate Sentry expand PvT: 2 Gate Robo
You basically do these 3 builds until you get to masters.
Liquipedia will have the actual build orders for the first two. Use this build here courtesy of CecilSunkure for your 2 gate robo.
Happy laddering.

6games is a lot. Keep it up and pretty soon that pesky social life of yours will be a thing of the past!

Keep on trucking! You can get to gold and dont forget yell it from the roof tops when you get there! :D

I clicked out of your blog as soon as I read "6 games" ...but I came back.
Think of this. You're playing against other kids in their bedrooms on a video game on a computer. You're psyching yourself out completely. These guys couldn't beat you up in real life, and most likely have lives outside of the game.
Remember to have fun and do whatever you want. Stop freaking out about going down in rank and play play play... There's no other way to get high rank. This is the first time (before BW) that ladder hasn't freaked me out, and it's gotten me into Masters as soon as I stopped caring. The only difference between Silver and Masters is mechanics and game sense. I can sure as hell tell you that those don't come from build orders (though those are nice^^), so do what you want and be a better gamer.

This is so funny
"Today I learned to 4gate, I did it 6 times, now I'm going to the gym"
Haha, in all seriousness, ladder fear is a tough hurdle to get over, but once you do, you just kind of realise how silly it is. Congrats
Also, ignore what these people are saying about not doing 4gate. Learning one build that works in all matchups and isn't very hard is a great way to learn a bit about how the game works, and to become a lot better with your basic control. Once you get to the point where you need to learn to play a more long-term game, you'll know
EDIT: There's also no point trying to learn to play macro games vs. silver opponents. Although you'll get beat a bit, it's best to try to stick it out with players that are better than you. It's the best way to develop as a player
