So the other night i watched the first Alien with my girlfriend, and of course it turned into an Alien vs Predator nerd discussion. Recently she posed another interesting question: Aliens vs Zergs? Specifically, Alien (normal drone, not a queen) vs Hydralisk, since it's the zerg spieces that resembles an Alien. Now let's look at advantages of both: 1) Hydras spit acid (or spiky things depending on the game you play), so they have a ranged weapon which an alien lacks. They are also bigger than an Alien drone, so probably they are stronger physically. 2) An alien drone has the whole acid blood thing, so in hand to hand combat even if the hydra injuried the drone, it would probably hurt the hydra...but hydras do have their own acid weapon, so let's call it a tie. 3) A drone is a cunning, smart killing machine, probably smarter than a hydralisk which is mentally a lot closer to an animal. 4) Physically speaking, hydras are bigger and stronger, but probably slower than an alien.
Hydras always shot spiky things, not acid. Colonial marines with guns can kill aliens as extensively shown in 'Aliens'. Spaceship-piercing razor spines most certainly can too.
Depending on the surroundings, hydras probably win simply due to that.
I guess the terrain would be the deciding factor in a fight between a hydralisk and a alien. In more open areas the alien would get sniped pretty easily by the ranged attack of the hydralisk but in areas with a lot of obstacles and places to hide like hallways or indoor areas I would place my bet on the sneaky alien, the one thing that stands out when I recall the alien movies is that those darn aliens always attack from either above or below or just the side you are not looking at
Depends on where they are fighting as the post by Tetralix says. If its just a wide open arena, Hydra ez. If its in a spaceship like the ones aliens always hide in, or a science vessel that kerrigan had just left (think of the cutscene in the zerg campaign) than the Alien would probably at least have an advantage due to the bulky size of the Hydra in a tight space.
edit: and Aliens are smarter than Hydras so you have to factor that in, especially if their fighting in an area favorable to the Alien.

They seemed the most similar zerg to an alien drone to me; they are definitely bigger, but an alien drone is bigger than a human so it should be kind of close.
Well in the lore the marines rifle supposedly shoots large steel nails in 30 round bursts at supersonic speeds, so if the Hydra can take multiple bursts of that before dying, I'd imagine he's pretty tough.
Xenomorphs would win for sure due to their speed, stealth, and ability to think independently. Hydras are slower and bred to be used en masse vs other armies, not to duel ultimate killing machines.
Unless the hydralisk is controlled by Jaedong, in which case it can kill infinity aliens.

I have to agree with you, a lone hydra doesn't stand a chance against a clever alien
I think we have a much bigger topic at hand here: Your girlfriend brought up StarCraft? Color me jealous T_T;
On topic though, all things considered, we must also ask whether or not this is a BW Hydra or an SC2 Hydra. If it's a BW Hydra, I think it would win. SC2 Hydra would be a walk-over win for the Alien. ;D
